Great choice of episode! Was it just me or did the pictures seem really badly pixelated on this one? ???

That was hilarious!  :D It had to take a ton of time.  You created an extended form of what some folks in the visual media call a "Lord Privy Seal".  Its a form of visual pun.  The Lord Privy Seal is an actual high-ranking government official in the UK, but the visual joke comes when someone shows a picture of Jesus, then a toilet and then a picture of a harbor seal or some similar marine mammal. I don't mean to draw any meaningful comparison but I learned about the Lord Privy Seal when I was reading reviews of Ben Stein's Exposed.  It might have even Dawkin's response to expelled where I saw it first. Anyhow, some folks panned Ben Stein's Exposed by calling it one long Lord Privy Seal because of all of the ridiculous imagery.  Of course, in Exposed they were serious whereas you are obviously having a fun time with it.

Keep it up...if you can.  That had to take a ton of work.  You must be tenured at Yale. ;)

That was my venture in the world of SGU YouTube vids.  And yeah it took me hours.  And on the 4th version Steve finally approved it. heh  Steve explained to me what a Lord Privy Seal was and then told me to take most of them out.  Trust me, there were a TON more LPSs in the first version.  A TON! :)

Nice work Mike!  Definitely continue with the Lord Privy Seal approach.  Some people say such wordplay humor is low-brow, but I disagree. You really need to understand how people think to pull it off.  I don't think you need keep up the current hectic pace or you'll burn out.  You could probably save a bit of work for yourself without losing the humorous effect.

By the way, have you figured out how to restore some of the resolution?  There were a few pictures with very low resolution.

diabhal is right.  It's YouTube's compression.  It squeezes the quality right out of the videos.  Too bad too, some of those pics were funny, like the one of Bob holding the star trek phaser.  Now it just looks like I blurred his face out.  I might make the non-youtube version of the video available on sgufans.net in a few days.

So this one taught us a valuable lesson.  Don't let videos get close to 10 mins long, or YouTube will compress the crap out of them.

Ah...that explains why the pix in the previous vids were better quality. Thx.

BTW, I created an SGU Playlist (LINKY) for anyone who wants to watch all the SGU vids back to back. I'll try to stay on top of it as new ones are added.

They have a note on the side of the page when uploading "Don't make videos longer than 10 minutes." Some people I've seen get away with it, but they already have like 200 or more videos up.

I've run into this exact problem before, when my friends and I would make raid movies in World of Warcraft. The distortion was so bad that you couldn't read any of the names or numbers.

To get around this, we would typically keep the YouTube version online and put a download link for the original high-quality in the info section to the right of the video. I would suggest you do the same if you're going to host the high-quality version on sgufans, as it will bring more viewers from YouTube back to the main sites.

Really good video. Keep up the good work. Though shame about YouTube compression.

Hey! Could it be that the SGU is "going viral?" :D

I just noticed that SGU's YouTube Page has been recognized for being the #74 Most Subscribed to user on YouTube this month! They now have 434 subscribers! Only need to triple that to get to the top ten (for the month).

Congrats SGU gang!

At 8:14 it was #70.

Pretty good.

Right now they have enough subscriptions to put them at #53, though they are showing at #56. Anyway, still climbing the charts!
