I like the new video better. And just so you know, I've gotten the video out there, so hopefully you have more people listening... or in this case, watching. I've subscribed, so I'll be watching.

Good idea, embedded the new YouTube clip on my latest blog post. Easy way to spread the word.

I also rated the new vid on YouTube. :)

Here's the second installment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouxfJLquuJY

Another topic that lends itself to a visual medium.

Thanks for spreading the word - that is the primary objective of this new content, to help expose more people to the SGU

The re-make of the first vid is much better, and the new vid shows even more promise. Keep up the awesome work.

Here's another suggestion... I was listening to the latest episode on my way to work this morning (the TAM recording) and thought that it would be cool to have a video recording of the live show for those of us who couldn't make it to TAM this year. Maybe this is something you could keep in mind for TAM next year, if you record another live show.

a couple thoughts

1) 3 - 5 min clips are ideal

2) use the "annotations" functionality of YouTube to ad clickable links within the video (ie to the SGU homepage, sources, etc)

3) ive never made a podcast so i dont know the limitations/capabilities, but it would be cool to have pics about the associated topics come up on your ipod.  i think astronomy cast tried this early on in their efforts (unfortunately they scrapped it).  i dont have a video ipod, so i dont know how theirs looked.  but i do think it would enhance the podcast experience.  not full video, but just snapshots of relevant images.

4) youtube vids of live interviews at TAM or other engagements would be cool.  or if you all go on another field trip to a psychic fair, document the proceedings and post a vid.

i dont have a video ipod

Nor do you need one... I have the 2GB Nano (2nd gen) and I can watch video podcasts within the iTunes client without actually loading them onto my iPod. This is how I watch The Onion's video news, The Guild, Happy Tree Friends, and Mr. Deity podcasts.

one more thing...

i think the style of the video should be a single person talking to the audience rather than the panel format that works so well for audio.

it might be time prohibitive, but maybe each week a rogue could produce their own vid similar to how the SGU blog works.

highly recommended video viewing both for form and content:

Another suggestion:

Post the full Skeptologists pilot along with the web site details, so more people will be able to request that it get picked up...

I disagree. I think the focus should not be on creating new content for YouTube, Steve and the Rogues are already spread pretty thin with several blogs, organizations, websites, and two podcasts. I like the idea of using content that already exists, adding a visual element, and using it to draw listeners to the podcast.

I do agree with your ideas about adding link and still photo content to the podcast, I brought it up once before in a different thread. I also think some recordings of special events would not go amiss.

Maybe it's time to introduce a new rogue in the team. ::)

I definitely agree with MisterMarc here. Using the content that already exists would act as a sort of advertisement for the show, drawing in new listeners rather than giving the existing audience something more.

The five minute video version of 5x5 is a great fit.  It's like a mini-Ken Burns inspired documentary.  The only other thing that might work is if you ever go back into the field, and do a short piece on psychic readings, or spoon bending or the like.  Nice work.

We already have in the works content that is created directly to video. This is coming.

The purpose of these videos is to use and enhance existing content. It is the most bang for the buck we can get and the quickest we can establish a presence on Youtube. But more is coming.

Would you have any objections if listeners put together videos like this? I can't but maybe someone else out there might be interested in doing some.
