I prefer this kind of diablo

I was pretty sure those things weren't cool and now I have objective evidence to prove it...

I wouldn't get too excited about Diablo 3 just yet. The earliest possible time it could get released is for 2010, and even that would be pushing it considerably. Basically the time line currently is:

Q4 08 = Return of the Lich King is released for WoW. The most likely timeframe for this is November considering their patch schedule at this time.

2009 = Starcraft 2 is released. This won't be released close to the Lich King expansion, since there is significant audience overlap. I wouldn't expect to see this until at least Q2/Q3 2009 which is a pretty conservative estimate. With the WoW cash cow machine going full swing, they can pretty much release it when they want to.

2010 = Diablo 3 is released. Again no need to overlap with the Starcraft 2 release.

I'll be interested to see how they go about this, the genre has been pretty much beaten to death by other games like Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege. I really wonder how much innovation they can cram in there that hasn't already been done?

I played Titan quest which was fairly terrible, everyone was hacking and it wasn't as much fun as the diablo series still is.  Any timeline right now is still unreliable, the game looks a lot further in to completion than most games when they are announced but blizzard is working on a lot of projects right now.  But there is a lot of polishing that needs to be done before a release.

Keep in mind releasing the d3 and sc2 in an "overlap" is not at all a bad thing for the company.

There isn'
t really a safe time after Starcraft II to release anything either way.  There's still hordes of people playing the original, so 6 months after Starcraft (which may still come out this year) isn't unreasonable at all.

And do you really think people will cancel their WoW subscriptions once Starcraft II comes out?  I canceled mine because I'm back at work 60 hours a week, not cause of any other game.

If Diablo III comes out next year I'll be thrilled.  it's always been my favorite Blizzard franchise.

D3 will no be a WoW-clone.  If you've played WoW and have seen the D3 footage, you know it isn't.  That said D3 is going to steal a lot from the lessons they learnt making WoW, and has a system that encourages you to use multiple skills instead of spamming one over... and over.. and over...  One thing they are taking from WoW is their experience designing really amazing small group content.  That boss at the end of the demo footage looked fucking insane.  A group of 5 D3 characters fighting this giant demon, and then the fucker picks one guy up and bites his head off. badass.

Blizzard now has three distinct teams making games (fueled the their WoWconomy) where-as in the past they only had 1 bouncing back and forth between three games.   The D3 (and SC2) engine looks perfect, and it seems to me the game is at content generating and balancing stage.

They must have hated Diablo 2, based on their complaints here. Didn't that have oversized weapons and armor? They make a few good suggestions, like the color palette (there is a lot of blue going on), but the light radius thing just makes it hard to see all the details that it looks like they put into it based on the video.

Pretty much everyone just turned the gamma on the game up so you could see the whole screen anyway.
