Or ...

You could go under the assumption that Rebecca wasn't thinking about us at all.

It is possible that she read (or was told about) the current issue of Time that features Twain as one part of their "Making of America" series.  The issue has some great quotes that remind you of his great wit and incredible insight. This particular quote has some relevance to the recent kerfuffle but it is also much wider than that.

There are many opportunities in life to be scolded.  I wouldn't go out of my way to try to find a cryptic scolding in the words of a man who has been dead for nearly one hundred years :)

Wait, scolded by a dead man?!  I better check my Bible to see if I'm going to hell for that.

No. scolded by a dead man quoted by a skepchick. It's the atheist version of purgatory for you, which is pretty indistinguishable from the atheist hell... and the atheist heaven... and equally real.

Isn't there a club called "Atheist Heaven" up on Spring Garden?

Hey Guys, I looked up the name 'Orcus': Even though D&D appropriated the name for one of its demon princes, it actually goes back to Roman mythology, and it was originally the name of one of the, and I quote, less pleasant aspects of Pluto, unquote. This is actually pretty neat, as I had also used the name for a fictional gas giant planet. Coolies.

"Hi, I'm Dr. Novella, Pareidoliaologist."
"Haven't I seen you before?"
"No, but I get that a lot."
Genius. Pure genius. Awesome show.

I have some nitpicks for this show, though. First one is, I think, more of a serious complaint than a nitpick because I get a little frustrated when skeptics say things they should be, well, more skeptical of: "The strange attractor for weather looks like a butterfly; it's an amazing coincidence!" No, it isn't. Because 1) It's the strange attractor for one specific weather model, not for "weather" in general 2) It depends very much on how its drawn because it's just an abstract mathematical pattern (it doesn't "look like" anything) and 3) Even when it's drawn in the most butterfly-looking way, it doesn't look anything like any butterfly I've ever seen!

The next one really is a nitpick: "We will never ever be able to predict accurately predict the weather in a week because it requires too detailed modeling."  The theoretical limit is actually about two weeks. So I think that's being a little pessimistic. Pessimism is good, though. It might even be correct, in this case. A week is probably borderline possible. If he had said "two weeks" or maybe even "ten days" then I would totally agree.

BTW, George's tune Brains Body Both was mentioned in this podcast and George mentioned it once in his podcast (a funny story about him performing at a CFI event and pissing off some feminists). If you're curious about this song, you can hear a great snippet here:

This song would have to kick ass live.
