I've always had a problem with the Debra character from a plausibility perspective -- supposedly smart, competent cop who doesn't have a clue that her own brother has been on a six-year killing binge (not to mention the ex bf) -- yet aside from the title it's the only one I consider indispensable. Having said that, I get a bad feeling about this season's Dex-Deb arc and where it will lead...

Agree this season has been the weakest by far. (It's been downhill since Season 2 IMO.) The plot swings from boring (Capt. Matthews subplot) to ridiculous (just one obvious question: what does Quinn need to do to get fired?) The acting is still strong, but the writers have run out of ideas. Time to either close shop or clean house if there is to be a Season 7.

I agree with everything about this but what's in bold. Seriously. Other than Michael C Hall and a few of the "serial killers du saison" the acting is atrocious IMO.

Meh; I can see having a few blind spots.  She was pretty desperate for love in the first season, and don't forget that Dex didn't sense Brian's darkness either.  With Dex though, I think it's probably easier to accept her missing his nature as misdirection is the best kind of deception, and she's been misdirected about him for her whole life.  Every weird thing he does has an alternate explanation for her.

the way they've botched this season so far doesn't give me much hope.

and the fact that there's only one ep left.

I'm also trying to imagine how they'd handle Deb knowing without removing her from the series and I just can't seem to think of how that would work.

I think earlier in this thread someone said that she found out his secret in the first of the many Dexter novels... if she's in the other ones, then, yea, I guess they have a way to do it.

Oh wow... I thought they had a few more left.  Well, good luck with that I guess.  As for Deb, she finds out at the end of the first book so the show's Deb is a lot different.  I'm not sure they can really compare at this point.

That's a bit harsh. A few of the lesser players may be going thru the motions, but that could be because the material has become so pedestrian. It must be difficult to rise to a line like "what the fuck is that?" for the umpteenth time. I'm grading on a curve I suppose, but I still find the actors more than watchable, which is more than I can say for 97% of the dreck on TV.

This is obviously the conceit with which the writers have been running from the get-go. But when Quinn, not the brightest bulb on the circuit, comes perilously close to nailing Dexter, only to be chased off the scent by Deb, you know the game's seriously rigged.

I was hoping for more out of this season...but it's still one of the best shows on TV.

One thing I was hoping would happen over the last couple of episodes:

I suspect that the computer geek/intern will be next season's serial killer.  There are certainly enough hints that he's intrigued by the thought of being one, but the clincher was when he thanked Dexter for motivating him to get off the bench and into the game.

I'm guessing that he'll treat it like a two person game, pitting himself against Dexter.
