Okay, so I'm nearly the end of the first book, and I come across this place name:

Kayakayanaya

Really, GRR Martin? Really? This is proof that he's screwing with his fans.

Where is that? I don't remember reading about it ever.
It's a one-off place name, I think--Dany mentions it when she's in the marketplace right before she almost gets poisoned by the wineseller. It's one of those "omg, so many exotic places are represented!!" things.

So....did you have the "surprise" of the first book spoiled, or did you know what was going to happen?  (If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, you haven't gotten there yet)

Oh he gets much worse.  Much, much worse.

Did you think I meant Eddard?  Well - it is true he doesn't get better either.

Out of all the cast of the TV show, the actor who plays Littlefinger comes closest to sounding like the "voice" of Littlefinger sounded in my head as I first read the books.

He's just great.
Well.  There it is.

Heh. Sad to say, even by the 5th book, Ned is still not using his head.

:roflolmao:

I'm not up to that point in the book--I've been reading the book on my phone and computer. It's not quite as fast as it would be on a Kindle. Damn GRR Martin for making this book so long. >.<

I got my wife to start reading over the holidays.  This is her complaint, too.  She says,"It'd be easier if the book sucked, 'cause then I could just stop reading."

Exactly. And I still have, what, five more books to get through? Frak.

My woman promised to give it a go, hasn't yet as the friend I loaned it to has lost it in his library whilst rennovating.

Get her to fall in love with someone then murder them without any notice. She'll get the same experience as reading a Song of Ice and Fire novel.

FU grrm....

I just finished A Clash of Kings. The ending wasn't as WTFingF as the ending of the first book. But I can see why people could get irritated with the series. It's pretty cliffhanger heavy.

So, makes you want to carry on, no?
It's not so bad when you don't have to wait half a decade between books, like I have twice(not literally).
