I finally finished the first Song of Ice and Fire book yesterday.  Now I can get started on A Clash of Kings.

He's probably thinking "I need to stay the hell away from that thread so I don't accidentally read any spoilers."

I know that's how I felt when I started reading the books 2 years ago.

I personally really enjoyed it and it was a very addicting read and now it's my number two on my list of top favorite fantasy series.

Does it include some of Biter's favourite recipes?
There's, another example. See, here I'm now sitting by myself, uh, er, talking to myself. That's, that's chaos.

Wait, we might be onto something...

Do you think the authorities checked the bookshelves of that Florida face-eating fellow?

I just finished book four. I am not pleased.

Book 5 will (probably) restore your confidence.  I think book 4 is the worst of the lot so far.

All the stuff in Dorne in book 4 is where it starts to get Robert Jordan-ish. People you don't care about doing stuff of unclear and distant relevance to the other plotlines and characters. The rest of the book was okay, but slow (also Jordan-ish). Book 5 is definitely better, but he still needs to pick things up.

I did enjoy both though! Not hating.

I only started reading book four because I really wanted to know what the deal was with Coldhands and Bran. Had I known that they wouldn't even be mentioned in book four I would have just skipped it.
