As for this retest harming anyone, I want to know who is paying for it? If it's public money then people will be harmed.
I totally agree with bigjohn this point. I don't care if the newspapers spend time, money and space on this. I don't care that a church somewhere wants to spend private money on this. But when Los Alamos National Labs spend time on this, that is where I draw the line. I work with several of the national lab. These guys are doing amazing work some using some of the most brilliant minds in the world. The work they are doing are extremely important everything from national defense, and environmental studies and medical advances. Yet the project that I am dealing with are scratching for funds to keep not only the nation but peace for other countries as well.
I would love to see the a**hole manager at LANL that said "yes, I think it is a good idea to spend public funds to do carbon dating on the Shroud of Turn" fired. From LANL's website:
"Los Alamos National Laboratory is a premier national security research institution, delivering scientific and engineering solutions for the nation's most crucial and complex problems. Our primary responsibility is ensuring the safety, security, and reliability of the nation's nuclear deterrent." I would love to find out how the shroud fits into what LANL does.
Does anyone know if they actually did spend money on this or if the believers are just using some retired LANL chemist's name (Ray Rodgers) to add legitimacy to claims. If so, we need to find out how to stop future waste of public funds on this.
