Remake!

The short story

O'Brien disavows responsibility

They're bastard-covered bastards with bastard filling from the planet Bastard in the Bastard galaxy.

They're going to replace all the songs with covers by the Justin Timberlake, and all the call-outs will incorporated directly into the dialogue.  They'll also be replacing all the references the Forbidden Planet and Flash Gordon in the intro song with references to Independence Day and Waterworld.  It's the end of the freaking world goddamit.  And, of course I'm going to watch it (but only so I can pan it later).

But that's just my opinion.  What do you guys think?

See...

Here's the thing..

The movie is a remake of the original musical

I've been lucky enough to see the revival of the musical.

The musical is FAR superior to the movie by the way. (and I'm a guy who performed the thing at midnight at my local movie theater for 2 years!)

It's not horrific and unthinkable that there would be a remake...but new songs and new settings?  Ridiculous.
Well.  There it is.

Not sure - but it could be referring to the callback lines that Rocky audiences are wont to shout out during midnight matinees. I used to know them all, back in my misspent youth, but I've forgotten most of them now.

no time warp? wicked lame, thats my all time favorite musical, in the movie sense, song. Then again I don't think I'd want to hear a timberlake remake of it.  Boo!!

Well, gee.  Now I feel all out-nerded.  This is not the time to be level-headed and skeptical!

I had the lesser privilege of attending midnight showings of the movie.  I can't imagine Frank'n'Furter as anybody else but Tim Curry.  Marilyn Manson (who was offered the part) makes a poor replacement.

This is one of those movies which, despite its differences from the original source, is idealized (like Willy Wonka -- whose remake I disliked -- or Blade Runner).

I made that part up in order to justify and exaggerate my nerd-rage.

Edit: guys, all the stuff in that paragraph was made up.

I think all of us old-school Rocky fans should picket the cinemas in fishnet stockings. Who's with me?

It's enough to make Tim Curry ladder his tights (pantyhose).

And how can you replace Susan Sarandon?

I say we use The Wicker Man Solution on these people!

So... let me see.  Your upset because someone is going to make a bad remake of a movie largely famous because it was so bad....

Just making sure I understand why I need my pitch fork and axe handle is all.  This is an outrage, I say. :o

They're bastard-covered bastards with bastard filling from the planet Bastard in the Bastard galaxy.

I think that says it all.

Actually, I hate the whole midnight showing thing. I just liked the original movie and music. I still oppose on the grounds that certain films just shouldn't be remade, and this is one of them. Incidentally, Spiney,The Wicker Man was another.  :D

Oh yes, totally agree. Whatever was done, it was a product of a particular time and place, and the resulting magic cannot be replicated.
