It's time for someone to step up and do a post-Rome podcast. "The Dark Ages: Brighter Than You Think."

Done in the style of HoR, I would love that.  I know next to nothing about the "Dark" ages.
Dan Carlin recently devoted a Hardcore History to the subject. The biggest issue is that the period is, well, relatively dark to us. We have a ton of documentation of Rome and an increasing amount from the medieval period onward, but to give you an idea, iirc every single document we have from England between I believe 700 to 1000 - decrees, tax records, literature, everything - can fit in a single file box.

Actually, there is a considerable amount of recorded history from that period, but it's from Africa and the Middle East. Think Islam and Judaism.

I would love a podcast on Post-Rome Europe. I love the art from that period.

There is your niche. I'll listen. Particularly if you can get Karyn to do the voice work.

Did you think I meant I wanted to do a podcast on the Dark Ages? 'Cause I'm way too computer-less to do that.

Rationally Speaking and Caustic Soda are the two podcast that I particularly enjoy listening to at the moment.

Caustic soda is the best show I know of. Have you listened to cognitive dissonance? Caustic soda on religion and politics. It also has Cecil who is an SGU forum member.

They all suck. They barely cover the topic.

Rationally Speaking is IMO the best thing out there around 80% of the time. The other 20% of the time they delve into straight-up philosophy which, I'm sorry, is mainly BS. That being said, Massimo Pigliucci is easily as much of an expert in his field (biology) as Dr. Novella is in his and has written a couple of skeptically-inclined books as well (particularly Nonsense on Stilts).

My list changes from time to time, so what the heck, here are the 25 which make my cut:

Cognitive Dissonance
Common Sense
Hardcore History
Inkredulous (at least in theory; I actually haven't listened to this yet)
Monster Talk
NPR: It's All Politics
NPR: Planet Money
The Pod Delusion (see comments on Inkredulous)
Rationally Speaking
Schlock Treatment (now with extra unjust mockery of Johnny Slick!)
Skeptics With A K
Stuff Mom Never Told You
Stuff You Missed In History Class
Stuff You Should Know
Tech Stuff
The History of Rome (mostly I've been working through the archives on this... up to Trajan)
The Reality Check
SGU
Thinking Allowed
Thomas and the Bible
