What is thinking allowed?
It's a half-hour long weekly podcast by an English dude about various tropes in society. They often have a class-based bent and are nearly always somewhat intellectual in nature.

Rationally Speaking and Caustic Soda are the two podcast that I particularly enjoy listening to at the moment.

Caustic soda is the best show I know of. Have you listened to cognitive dissonance? Caustic soda on religion and politics. It also has Cecil who is an SGU forum member.

Sounds good. I will add it to my feeds.

SGU, Caustic Soda, and Decoder Ring Theatre are the podcasts I usually bump to #1 in my queue. oh, and wait wait... and IPN. now that I've been reading more I find that I don't get through as many podcasts as I used to. and I'm starting to hate 1 hr plus podcasts. 45 minutes or less people. that's as long as I'll care about what you say.

I hate one's that're too short if they're entertainment, but, yea, if we're talking a point to be made, usually the discussion of that topic doesn't need to exceed half an hour (BiPiSci perhaps being an exception since they aren't limited to one interview)
I prefer that Skeptoid 'this ep is about x' format to the Non-Prophets/FreethoughtRadio/Skeptics'Guide/etc format of 'heres a massive chunk of unknown content only some of which might interest you.

I could listen to Never Not Funny or Doug Loves Movies even if they were 3 hours long. :)

I like Ottowa Skeptics Reality Check's format. it's a mix of scripted and spontaneity. a little too Canadian, but I can live with it.

I've been listening to them for some time... not to canadian for me but they do get a fair amount wrong.

I would think word of mouth would be the best way to go about it. This is a good start this forum or any like it. I have picked up a few good tips on this thread.

yea. a forum based on the subject matter of the kind of podcast you want. look for a media/podcast/general banter section.

it's also helpful when people guest on other podcasts and announce their new podcast :)

It's time for someone to step up and do a post-Rome podcast. "The Dark Ages: Brighter Than You Think."

http://12byzantinerulers.com/

I am going to miss 'The History of Rome', but it does end up being battles between Popes and Emperors for hundreds of years.

The 12 Byzantine Rulers podcast might be a good place to follow on from 'The History of Rome'.

I've recently discovered some great podcasts through the 'iTunes U' tab:

Music and the Brain - topics/episodes include: 'Your brain on Jazz: neural substrates of spontaneous improvisation',  'music, trance, religious experience, and the brain', 'why do listenters enjoy music that makes them weep?'.......I've only listened to one ep so far.....

LIVE from the NYPL (NY public library) - really great variety of talks/lectures; science, literature, anthropology, the arts, politics, etc.  Episodes include:  'Oliver Sacks: "Hallucinations", 'God without the sacred', 'The quest to understand consciousness in art, mind and brain'......plus a TON of one-on-one interviews with people like Werner Herzog, Keith Richards, Errol Morris, Christopher Hitchens.....

I haven't checked this one out yet, but it looks good too:
Religion and Conflict
