T.V. Shows you thought you would hate but didn't.
MikeHz:
Heroes. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy, which the show actually is. But, good writing and good acting work wonders in maintaining interest.
It's the same thing with Desperate Housewives. I'm not into soaps, and for the first season passed it off as a woman's show. But once more, good writing and acting did the trick.
KarenX:
Cavemen. Yeah, the show about the Geico guys. But he had a frikkin Wii and a doctoral thesis he was procrastinating on. I loved it.

I'm actually going to second this. I knew it was doomed from the start for being too left field for what was perceived by any passerby as a gimmick show. I was expecting train wreck for the first episode and found myself enjoying the series up until the cancellation. It was kinda Curb-lite in some aspects, but having it on ABC you could almost be certain the show would never find an audience.. and it didn't.

it's a goofy afternoon cartoon that my daughter also enjoys.

HELL YES!!!
My son turned me on to this.
I have seen every episode.
From the subtle little adult-type humor bits to the plot are just plain funny.
The boys are nonchalantly building everything from a ladder to the moon to their own super roller-rink.
And every time the sister tries to tell on them, the object 'suspiciously' disappears.
Doofenshmirtz (the villian) is pretty funny too.
He doesn't want to take over the world, just the tri-state area. :D
From the museum episode (not verbatum):
Guard: "Hey aren't you a little young to be working in a museum?"
Phineas: "Yes, yes I am."
Guard: "It's great to see the younger generation employed in such an educational fashion, carry on!"
Here they are at their design table:

I was surprised by a few cartoons when I had a kid.
Fairly Oddparents are great, even SpongeBob is tolerable. Avatar is another great kids show.

I thought Avatar looked pretty interesting from the start, but I thought Phineas and Ferb was going to be another mindless kiddie show on Disney Channel. Pleasantly surprised to say the least. Both shows prove that children's television nowadays has hope of a brighter future.
