I was surprised (shocked) that nobody on the panel said anything about the election of the first African American U.S. President at the opening of the show.  Are you guys paranoid or what?  You even mentioned the election, and said some dribble about how the process repeats every few years.

Did I miss something?

“We have seen this great revolution in public sentiment slowly but surely progressing, so that, when final action came, the opposition was not strong enough to defeat the purpose.  I can now solemnly assert that I have a clear conscience in regard to my action on this momentous question. I have done what no man could have helped doing, standing in my place.”  Abraham Lincoln on signing the “Emancipation Proclamation”

The show was recorded ON election day. He hadn't won yet.

Actually I think it was the day after election because aside from mentioning the speeches they talked about Guy Fawkes night which is the 5th November and the election was on the 4th.

Yep, we recorded the day after election day. Why did we not mention Obama won? I guess we figured that by Saturday, you'd all already know?

I'm glad of his choices for science advisors.

Harold Varmus, a Nobel laureate and former head of the National Institutes of Health; Gilbert Ommen, a former president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; Peter Agre, a Nobel laureate and ardent critic of the Bush administration; NASA researcher Donald Lamb; and Stanford University plant biologist Sharon Long.

Maybe there was sarcasm I missed, but if not I will have to take the roll of "smarty-pants" by saying Giant Pandas ARE bears.

Giant Pandas are NOT bears!  Bears are mean and scary, while Giant Pandas are cute!

Pandas are vicious killers, as evidenced by this photo which shows a Panda exhausted after mauling a group of International aid workers in China.  Pandas have a secondary set of jaws which can shoot out of their mouth and rip out your beating heart, lift it up to your face to show it to you before the oxygen leaves your brain, and then suck it into their mouth to chew it with their tertiary mandible.  Evolution can not explain the horror that is - The Panda!

I just found out that President Kennedy has been shot in his Motorcade in Texas!  Why, God?  Why?

And why didn't you cover this in the podcast?  Are you guys Kennedy Assassination Deniers?

I'm glad they didn't talk about the election - nothing to talk about that is science or skepticism related. I'm all electioned out. It is after all our escape to reality!

So who do you guys think is going to be on the tickets for 2012? On the Republican side it's going to be Palin and Joe the Plumber (sounds so Medieval if only they'd had plumbing) and on the Democrat side it will be Obama and Rahm Emanuel.  :D

Actually (I finally heard the first part - didn't have my headphones on last time - working)

Steve did mention the election.

My bad. AND - I have been a day late on the date for a whole week. I do the same thing 7 days a week and forgot which day was the 5th.

Michael Crichton, who wrote State of Fear, discussed Global Warming during this interview. Toward the end of the interview Charlie asked Crichton if he still thought that climate change is a illusion. There was even talk about having a debate on CRose about the issue. I was disappointed that the debate didn't occur. Now, I know why.

You may find this interesting..

Title: Global Warming is not a Crisis.

Intellegence Squared is a pretty good Podcast, with a real debate format.  Crichton made some good points (actually everyone did, both sides).

Your post makes no sense at all to me. At what point did I say he needed to be someone I could like?

Yes, i did pull the trigger on that post too quickly, sorry, my only excuse is that beyond the work demands on authors/artist or even scientists has always been a pet peeve... A clearly end of life wrong turn should not cloud a clearly talented (if not somewhat mainstream) career.
