Thanks Joel. I'm sort of going the interview route right now but I hope to get back to a couple more prepared shows. I've got a surprise guest coming up... a voice many in the skeptical community have not heard in their ear buds in a long time...

Oooohhhh, teaser! No fair!  ;)

Looking forward to it; btw, I posted this elsewhere, but in case you missed it, the Los Angeles City Beat (a free, local paper) has an interview with David Icke, conspiracy nut extraordinaire.  The cover has this great drawing of Obama tearing off his skin to reveal his reptilian true self.  You can read that article here: HERE.

The Conspiracy Skeptic sits down for a good ramble with Michael Goudeau, former Penn Jillette Radio Show cohost, head writer for Penn & Teller's Bullshit!, Vegas' most successful juggler, skeptic, and foodie.

We talk about the conspiracy of kindly pediatricians who want to poison children with vaccines and give them autism, death threats made to the staff of Bullshit by the conspiracy loons, the possible return of the Penn Radio Show, and even how you can hire Goudeau for a corporate event or private party.

Can I just say how aggravating the moon landing episode was?  You do such a terrific job of debunking the theories, and the "Bad Physicist" did such a remarkably lousy job!  I think Joe Rogan caught him with his pants down; I mean, in his defense, if I were going to debate Joe, I would assume I would need virtually no preparation or knowledge the wipe the floor with him.  But, he did a terrific job.  I mean, he knew his "facts" (albeit, completely inaccurate and/or misleading "facts") and he was able to argue circles around "bad physicist."

Funny thing is I turned on the 2008 Ultimate Fighting championship last night, and Rogan is the host.  I kept wanting one of the fighters to kick him in the head...

Yeah, I don't think Phil did a very good job ("Bad Astronomer") in that particular debate, or at least the excerpts that Karl pulled.

I think Phil did a lot better in the second debate. Lord knows I'd not do 5% as good as Phil. The sober second look without Joe screaming at me and I'm not just set off guard being in Penn's house and sitting at table made out of naked girl playing cards would help.

I liked the interview though I was kind of hoping that since he is one of the main writers on Bullshit you might get around to covering their highly criticised episodes i.e. the global warming & second hand smoke ones for instance.

Would have been interesting to see how he saw those episodes. Apart from that though, very interesting.

I thought about that after. I did sort of give him a softball interview. Mostly the aim of the podcast is to just find out about the person's favorite conspiracy, not kind of make them regret coming on :)

Small world! ;D
I know Michael Goudeau.  I met him through a mutual friend. One of my good friends is the production manager for the Lance Burton Magic Show and every year, he throws a superbowl party for all the cast (and me).  Mike has a small intermission act as a juggler in Lance's Magic show so he was there too.  Really nice guy.

That's a fair point. Still curious though... I remember watching the global warming episode of Bullshit and thinking 'How the hell can the writers fall for these kind of arguments after criticising the exact same thing in all their other episodes?'

Maybe you could throw a soft-ish curveball once or twice ;) not enough to make them regret the conversation but enough to satisfy one demanding listener :D.

Anyway, minor quibble.

Here's the thread mindme started two years ago after that debate. I didn't check it out again, but I remember it being a good read.

I think Phil did a lot better in the second debate.

Don't you have that backwards?

I thought the first debate was great, but the second one was painful.  I might be remembering incorrectly though.

Just finished with the Illuminati unplugged episode.  Very entertaining.  If you're interested, there's a great Straight Dope article on the Illuminati HERE.
