Just two points about the claim:

First point: the towers did not collapse due to fire. They collapsed due to fire after suffering extrem physical damage.

Second point: no building as tall as the WTC towers has ever been demolished by controlled demolition. The tallest controlled demolition ever was the J.L. Hudson building demolition in Detroit, carried out by the famous Loizeaux family. That building was 439 feet tall. The WTC towers were about 1370 feet tall -- over three times as tall as the tallest controlled demolition in history.

If "it never happened before" disproved collapse by fire, it also disproves collapse by controlled demolition.

Yup. The book "Debunking 9/11 Myths", which expands on the excellent Popular Science article on the matter, has a photo showing just how displaced the columns were by the sagging floors.

Yup. The book "Debunking 9/11 Myths", which expands on the excellent Popular Science article on the matter, has a photo showing just how displaced the columns were by the sagging floors.

I learned about that from the latest NOVA on WTC collapse. The first one said that experts thought that the floors pancaked creating the collapse but that was not the NIST found.

That's a big part of it. Most building fires start in a specific spot and spread slowly without any other physical damage to the building. This one involved punching huge holes in the buildings and pouring thousands of gallons of flaming fluids through the place -- also something that had never happened before.
