It is not the volume in the Global Warming sub-forumthat is a problem, it is the tone.  Because of its "members only" status it has become increasingly abusive in nature.  I just think that, in the absence of moeration, the best solution is to retun it to the general forums so that people will behave better.

Who cares how abusive they consensually get with each other?  Keep 'em in the pit - they rub the lotion on their skin or they get the hose again.

I care about science more than that.

There's no science left in the Ghetto - only rhetoric.  Why would you want that to spill back over into gen-pop?

Ugh, then it'll really be a mess.  I think it's moderated to some extent, but there's about 4 people who post to it and the rest of us ignore it.

Maybe I could set up a completely seperate board for it and we can just send the masochists there.

Sorry for my rather terse answer earlier.  I have time to put my thoughts down a little better now.

I care about this because the ghetto is rhetoric and trollery hiding under the banner of "Science and Skepticism".  I have seen several newer members with actual expertise in the subject venture in and attempt conversation only to be repelled by the resident trolls.  I would rather have those people stick around and contribute to the rest of the board instead.

I understand that it is more convenient to just write off the sub-forum as a place that can be easily avoided and therefore we don't have to address all the messiness.  The problem is that it doesn't carry the explicit tag.  There is nothing telling new members that it is as bad as it is.

My fantasy is that if all of that spilled back over into gen-pop everyone would see how pathetic it is and certain people would either stop playing or end up getting banned for their behavior.  I know that it is just a fantasy but I like to dream.

I wish to officially request a child board under Forum Games for Mafia.
There is enough Mafia for its own forum and it will reduce the clutter for other games that are not mafia related.
Please consider this change for the betterment of personkind.

Thankyou.

Skeptics Guide to the Universe forum - 2011Dec21:
Can we start a section for cancer / politics, religion and sex issues?

This is the first time I have logged in for 7 months. I have had a life-changing event - I have cancer. Following Maslow's hierarchy, I am now looking at QOL issues.
I have been following discussions that are cancer related. A few days ago, I read a post where the woman was thankful for the help she got from her church. I replied that most of the people who helped me are atheists - that raised a storm.
So, after the storm seemed to have passed a bit, I posted a message that there is an 800 pound gorilla in the living room, which no one seems to want to talk about. It occurred to me that it would be nice to have somewhere for people with cancer to talk about the things that are important, aside from the cancer: politics, religion and sex (ooh, scary). I am still alive after 7 months, and now I want to look at the quality of life issues.
In the US, health-care is political, in the US, politics is religious, and sex, well, what can I say - there are sex issues that are specifically related to cancer.
I have privately found some atheists with cancer, who want to talk about these issues.
Perhaps it is easier to find a forum, which is mostly atheist, then filter that to atheists with cancer, rather than cancer people who are admittedly atheist.

Can we start a section for cancer / politics, religion and sex issues? Or health-care/cancer/politics/religion/sex. Or some combination thereof.

I continued to listen to SGU, even during the Stem Cell Transplant.

First off, Dave, let me express both my sympathy for your condition and my joy that you are still with us.

The way new boards are started here is reactive - that is, they are made when enough threads come up in regard to one particular topic that they start to crowd out the more general discussion about other things.  If that happens with cancer issues, I'll make one for sure.  Otherwise, there's the Skepticism/Science board, where I believe cancer topics would not only fit, but be welcomed and openly discussed.

Alternatively, if you think that the discussion might be too private, you can start a thread in the Explicit section - not all of the threads there are about explicit topics; members tend to let loose a bit more in that section, imo. It's also hidden from random non-members, which is a nice bonus.

There is no nudity on the forum, absolutely none, and when I say none, I mean there is a certain amount.
