For sale on Amazon for $14.58

"Usually ships within 1 to 3 months."

Yikes.  Someone seriously underestimated the demand for this one.

Well, just imagine how long it take Crumb to draw each one of the books!

Yikes.  Someone seriously underestimated the demand for this one.

I heard somewhere that it was the biggest first run of an underground comic ever.  So who can blame them if the ended up shooting low?  It'd be much scarier to overshoot, what with how much it must cost to print the thing.

It's so strange, all these people are going to be actually reading the bible because of this.

And then ripping people apart online because, having actually READ Genesis, they'll know more about the Bible than most Christians.

Or at least more about the first 5% of the Bible.

That's more than most the Christian I've met have read. I've known people who didn't even know what the Epistles WERE, let alone the fact that they constituted the majority of the New Testament. One joker honestly thought it was "the Gospels and Revelation." He actually argued with me about it too. This was in sixth grade Sunday school, and the kid, who had been raised Lutheran, lacked even the most rudimentary knowledge of the Bible.

I read it... it was great!
It got me interested in the Bible in a way the actual Bible could not. My childhood love of myths and fairytales was reawakened. If you take away the naughty pictures, the book could be called a childrens' version of Genesis.

I have not read the actual Bible (i got bored about the time of the second creation), but from what i can tell, Christians will be surprised at the faithfulness of the retelling. It's not all sex, though there is a lot of it... but hey, that's the Bible! This is the content of these stories! Back then, they seemed to be preoccupied with blood-lines and birthrights and swapping handmaidens and "spreading their seed" like dust on the wind ( :P ). It doesn't linger on the salacious parts, nor does it cut out the boring "begat" parts.

Crumb obviously has respect for the source material, and now, so do I.

I'm a little past the Flood right now; if you read the introduction, he makes it very clear that he wanted to be faithful to the source material (the KJ version and The Five Books of Moses - Robert Alter), but that he fully expects to piss off some people.

I think I'm most impressed by the fact that he left in the begots. I mean, jeez, talk about dedication.

I really hope he comes out with further Books. This might be the only way I'll ever read the Bible - and I'm a mythology fan.

I suspect pissing people off is inevitable whenever one tries to approach a work as popularly kippleized as the Bible in any sort of honest, academic manner.  Sort of like how people who only know The Wind in the Willows through various TV and film versions would be likely to whine about a new adaptation that doesn't cut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn or Wayfarers All.

I "listened" to the full video and laughed my ass off. Literally.

Every time she tried to turn his art into something meaningful to others he was like, "Nah. I just like to draw."

She'd say, "But Why black and white? .. Was that an attempt at showing the rawness of reality?", and then he would say, "Naw... It would be a pain in the ass and take too long to color it in." - (AFTER saying it took him 4 years to draw it)
