Here's an oddball suggestion... My local NPR station interviewed a film maker Tuesday morning named Kirby Dick, who has a new independent film coming out called "This Film Is Not Yet Rated." It's a documentary/exposé on the secretive MPAA rating board. The interview was really eye-opening. Apparently there are no standards, no regulations. The reviewers have no training. Ratings are extremely arbitrary, and the decisions they make are often more political than anything else.
It certainly wouldn't be the typical Skeptic's Guide subject matter, it's more on the media mythmakers side of the spectrum. Something to consider though. I think the average person unknowingly puts a lot of faith in movie ratings, but as it turns out, it's just one more thing we need to be skeptical of.
