OK, in that case may I humbly suggest another sub-forum for space-fillers like whoring, twitter, introductions and "explain your avatar" etc?

Twitter is not a space saver / whore thread!

No value judgement intended. Just that every time I bring up the page of latest posts in the morning, there are the same bunch of threads with 4-figure post counts.

I know... and I know that that can be annoying.  General mod consensus, though, is that we should keep the number of boards to a minimum (which is why Ongoing Discussions replaced Alternate Hypotheses instead of being a newly-created forum), and having one forum which will only ever have 4 or 5 threads in it is seen as kind of extravagant.

Besides, reading the Introductions thread can be more rewarding than you think.  You never know when someone near you will join the board!

The intro / avatar threads could be exceptions, but there are a lot of threads that seem to be posting just for posting's sake. How many of the threads which show new posts each morning really have anything new of skeptical interest?

:)

Hey, my stars turned into grotesque grinning faces when I reached 2001 posts! It also says "I'm sorry, Dr. Novella, I'm afraid I can't do that."

(They've probably changed back now)

Edit: Yes they have changed back. When do I get my next Easter Egg?

It's a pity that the post count updates on all messages and not only on the one it applies to. I would have liked to keep that.

Edit Edit: Seems I can keep it ...

I remember when that happened to me.  I didn't post for two weeks I liked it so much.

I repeat.... Twitter is random but not a space filler!

OK, OK ... but like the whoring threads it is something of interest to people who post to it -- and they will seek it out wherever it is -- and it is not a lot of interest to people like me, who would like the option to exclude these threads from my "new posts" pages.

Anyway, it's not a big deal and I don't seem to have any support for the idea.

Believe me I understand. We all would love to unpost to certain threads. Personally I wish I was out of word association (s) Whore thread and a host of global warming threads (They always draw me in and then I'm stuck for a coupla weeks going why did I respond?
