well, i don't know if it matters, but iTunes has a different store for different countries. eg, there's a US and a UK store. different content is available for different stores (i think i have a UK account, but i never use it). it's kind of like how amazon does: there's amazon.uk, .jp, etc, and each site offers different things. it's kind of silly, imo.

I think it's necessary due to rights issues in different countries. A distributor might have the rights to an intellectual property (ie. music, or an audiobook) in one country, but not another. Of course, I don't know why this would affect podcasts.

I can see the show on the search page on iTunes, but I can't subscribe or get episodes.

This might be some necroposting, but I think I have an answer

South Africa has no ITMS, only the App Store, just like my country. This means that apart from apps and ItunesU nothing is available, not even for searching.

There is a way around this, just change the country to one with ITMS (USA, UK, etc) and all the podcasts will be available without having to sign in. Or, alternatively it is possible to subscribe manually with RSS.
There's, another example. See, here I'm now sitting by myself, uh, er, talking to myself. That's, that's chaos.
