I wonder why, if homosexuality really works evolutionarily, why couldn't a gene for sterility work just as well?

Because, homosexuality doesn't require extra energy. Not only that, but sterility doesn't grant this behavioral gain.

There's genes for that too.  It's just that sterility, in its various forms, isn't as conspicuous.

The super-uncle theory has been out there for a while. It strikes me a little as a 'just-so story'. Maybe being gay isn't adaptive but is a side effect of other more obviously useful adaptations. Just a thought.

Well if me and my partner represented a homosexual men in general, which we of course don't this theory is a 50/50 hit.

I love kids and can't wait to be an uncle again, whereas my partner can't stand them.

Personally I think that the gay role in the world is to help get skeptical balls rolling, so to speak.

Another possibility is that homosexual men help relieve male competition for females within the group, thus leaving more females for the dominant males. This helps relieve in-group tensions.

Careful now, you're dancing close to claiming bisexuality is real and not just a case of a homosexual being confused. ;)

(Yes, that is a joke. At least half my female friends are bisexual.)

True enough. But one particular gene phenotype can have the effect of moving the organism in a certain direction along a spectrum.
