Of course these tendencies affect skeptics. That's why we need skepticism. There but by the grace of ...oh shit!
Yes yes yes. Of course of course. It's just delightful when it happens to me!  I think, ah there it is! That's what self delusion looks like ...

I joined the message boards to ask a question.
In this episode, Randi relates the story of the Martin Gardner's long lost book from his father that he finds decades later in a book store. This story bears a striking resemblance to a story I heard on "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction." (A guilty pleasure of mine, but I can't help it, I love Jonathan Frakes!)  I cannot remember if the story turned out to be fact or fiction... but I think it claimed to be fact.
Has anyone else seen this episode? Does anyone know if it was based on Gardner's story? It would be really neat to verify.
Thanks!
~Tay

Are you sure that was the show?  Here's an episode guide and I can't find a segment that sounds like that one:
http://www.tv.com/beyond-belief-fact-or-fiction/show/3347/episode.html?tag=list_header;paginator;4&season=4  But if it is, then you should be able to track down the specific ep on youTube (or similar) and see if it matches.

I'm skeptical of this storey. Sorry no knowledge outside of the truly fantastic chances that it actually happened, but truly fantastic things do happen from time to time. (Cue the Laura Buxtons)

Okay, you are right, it is season 4. The title was "When I Was Big." Now that I look at the details of the story they are ridiculous and don't match the Gardner/Randi story at all. But, the show always gave the disclaimer that the stories "are *BASED ON* actual events." So I guess it would be possible that it could have been based on Gardner's story and given a supernatural twist by the the show...
