Civilization V
« on: February 21, 2010, 08:45:55 PM »
I'm surprised no one has posted this yet. I actually meant to start this a few days, but kept forgetting.

Anywho, Civilization V has been announced with a Fall 2010 release window.

So, prepare yourselves.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... I like civ, and I've been wondering when a fifth one was coming for a bit now.

However... don't know if I'll be checking it out right away what with Starcraft II and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. =/

I liked Civ4 quite a bit. Though I don't follow PC games closely. This should be good?

Civ 4 was great.

But the fact that this is the first we've heard of Civ 5 and it's going to be out in less than a year kind of worries me.

I suppose it isn't reasonable to expect as great an improvement as there was going from 3 to 4, but I can't help fearing that this isn't entirely intended to be a major release the way 4 was.

The main change that's being discussed is that the tiles are going from square to hexagonal, which is a big enough change to alter current strategies, I'd imagine.

I don't care if it is incremental. I've owned every Civ game since the first one. I don't see that changing.

ETA: Also, it's been 5 years since IV was released, and 3 years since the last expansion. Just because we didn't hear about it until now doesn't mean they haven't been working on it for a while.

I haven't played Civ since Civ II.. but man, I could spend days sequestered in my room as a kid playing Civ I and Civ II.

Rumors have been floating for a while that Sid was working on a new Civ... so I don't think they just picked it up 2 weeks ago.  Plus Civ is Sid's baby, I don't think he would put out a mediocre one.

Excited, will buy.

The civ games are okay, and Civ5 looks worth buying, but it still saddens me every time I see another civ game that they never went further with alpha centauri.

Man, just thinking about Starcraft reminds me of my middle school days. Not that I played it 8 hours a day, but I definitely enjoyed it. I hope that my current PC can play SC2.
