Child Actors...the good and the bad.
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:13:44 PM »
Carried over from another thread.
What are some of the best and/or worst performances by child actors you've seen.

I hated the kid in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.

I liked Haley Joel Osment in Secondhand Lions.

stand by me.
All the child actors in that movie were great.  Some of them died, some of them faded into obscurity, some became huge stars and some actually became worse actors.

MacCaulay Culkin in "The Good Son"
Absolutely horrid.

My kids watch The Disney Channel a lot.
Everyone on there is just atrocious, except maybe Miley and Carly.

Watched Son Of Frankenstein the other day.  An amazing universal horror movie that is almost totally ruined by the worst child actor I have ever seen.

Jaden Smith is an atrocious actor. the only reason he gets put in films is because he has rich and famous parents.
I resent his existence.

now those two children in the others were amazing.

The girls from the TV show Medium, especially the oldest and middle daughter.  I've got to think the director (or someone on the show) has a lot to do with it because they really have been quite impressive.

Shirley Temple was a phenomenon - in her day - but it's impossible to watch her now without throwing up.

One movie reviewer said he was out-acted by his own hair.

Alexander Gould, who plays Shane Botwin in Weeds. He was already very good as a child, now as a teenager he's even better. The guy who plays his elder brother Silas in the series, OTOH, is a disaster.

Didn't know until I saw his entry in the wikipedia (link), but Gould is also the voice of Nemo. Not a bad work either, Finding Nemo is one of the most watchable children's movies.

Kids in movies suck. It's like actors who suck at singing but try to sing in every movie they are in (I'm looking at you Bruce Willis).

On a side note, my sister's boyfriend randomly has a blog called Kidcasting, where he posts pictures of kids in movies who play the younger version of adult actors:
