George Hrab

I couldn't find a thread on him.

The Assumption

Out of My Mind

My main motivation for starting this is to spread the word that Geologic Podcast #170 is George's new album Trebuchet in it's entirety. Check it out and, if you like it, go to http://www.cdbaby.com/all/geologic/ and buy it. I was suprised by how great it sounded(the few songs I'd heard from him hadn't really impressed me at the time), and I bought it as soon as the pod ended.

if his fans weren't so stingy about sharing his albums, there might already be one. I've only ever managed to find Coelacanth and Interrobang.

Cool video, kb. Thanks!

Yeah, he doesn't have a lot of videos on YouTube either.

I just found this guy, though some of it's really difficult to listen to because of the quality.

As soon as I heard it I planned on buying 10 and giving them as gifts.

is that sarcasm?
not everyone has broadband, so I don't really know if you mean to imply that youtube is supposed to be regarded as an acceptable substitute source of music.

Are you saying that if you live in area where broadband is not available, that you are not cool?  ::)

The second comment was meant to be sarcastic. In this context I think YouTube is a viable source of music. We can't post links to torrent or rapidshare files without breaking the rules, so videos are it really.

I really liked Happy Birthday, Baby. I don't know why but George's voice matches that kind of big band music perfectly.

i'm looking forward to listening to Trebuchet (via the podcast feed). I've listened to some of Hrab's stuff on Last.fm and have been toying around with the idea of buying an album of his for a while. i wouldn't otherwise obtain his music, because i respect him as an artist and would want to support him financially, but i haven't really had the budget for music lately. i should have some extra cash this summer.

only 24 hours? lucky. here, after you meet your cap, that's it, no more broadband until the new monthly allowance rolls around.

email him and ask him if he appreciates your decision to not enjoy his music and not give him any money, because you don't want to enjoy his music until you've given him money, unless it's available on youtube or lastFM or the radio or podcasts.

d'you think there should be a some sort of cultural moral of youtube interest rates? like, if you buy a plasma screen TV, and you pay it off over 2 years, you start getting lots of enjoyment out of the TV before you've paid for it all, and you pay more for the TV in the end for that privilege. If you enjoy songs from his album while he's still waiting for your money, then, when you do finally pay him in full, should you give him more than people do who haven't heard any of his songs before making full payment on the album, since you were getting pleasure you didn't yet fully deserve?

We can't post links to torrent or rapidshare files without breaking the rules, so videos are it really.

I'm not suggesting anyone should host them on this forum, or even that anyone on this forum should host them, I was just griping that he doesn't seem to have enough fans out there who are willing to seed a torrent such that there are enough of them to have cumulatively made all his albums available. (who knows, maybe they're those weirdos who like an album but then inexplicably choose not to get any more albums by the same artist...)

some seriously crazy obscure demos from war-torn nations can be found, but the albums of a US artist who is well known can't, it's just...so...n0n-l33t!

I think the problem is that he's not a well known artist. I wouldn't even consider him big in the scope of the skeptical community, and we're pretty damn small as far as sub-cultures go. I'm not morally against internet piracy or anything, I just haven't done it in a while.

Is "war-torn nations" a band or or do you mean demos from bands who are from war-torn nations? I just spent 15 minutes looking for them...
