I'm a couple years late to the party, but I thought it could be useful to discuss some aspects of effect sizes and meta-analysis in the forums at http://forum.mind-energy.net
. My primary area of expertise is meta-analysis, and this could be a useful exercise for me -- including an opportunity to try some meta-analytic procedures I don't usually use (e.g., weighted distribution models for selection bias, bivariate binomial models for paired dichotomies, Bayesian approaches). In particular, I thought I'd focus for now on Radin's (2005) meta-analysis, since it's been discussed on SGU:
Radin, D. (2005). The sense of being stared at: A preliminary meta-analysis. Journal of Consciousness Studies, 12,
I've obtained Radin's data and have started running some sensitivity analyses with different procedures to see how much the results change. I plan to start posting some things in the Mind-Energy forums today; we'll see if I have the time and stamina to keep up with this.
