This is a totally modern Sherlock.  And it was very entertaining.

The new Sherlock was quite perfect, which is a very difficult thing considering how many fab Sherlocks there have been.

Is that Arthur Dent as Watson?

Yes, Martin Freeman. I think he is more readily identified as Tim in 'The Office' in the UK.

Ep 1 is A Study in Pink if that helps you find it.

Whut? Seriously? What's their angle? Are they not following the stories?

EDIT: Found it....it's modern times? Okay, I hate it.

It adds a certain charm and appeal doing it in modern times.

I found episode 1 highly amusing and quite clever.

You're wrong.  Stop being wrong.

It's good, certainly worth watching.  I don't like their version of Holmes himself, I think he's too much of a dick and is too rude, but Freeman's Watson is what makes it worthwhile.  And other supporting cast is pretty good as well as the villain.

Fuck that. Holmes is an 19th century man. That's part of the charm of the series. It's like setting The Great Gatsby in the 70s. What the hell?

It may be a part of it, but I would argue it isn't a necessary part.  House was a very obvious homage to Holmes and by god does it ever work.  This works too.

Maybe that's the key, just think of it as an homage rather than THE Sherlock Holmes.

When they call the characters Holmes and Watson, and have them live at 221b and so forth I have a hard time considering it "homage." But anyway, you're welcome to enjoy it...it just doesn't sound like my idea of Holmes.

I concur.

The period drama Sherlock Holmes had been done to death, I thought the new twist was rather clever.

It's the total lack of ambition that puts me off.

I'm sure it's good. It's Sherlock Holmes after all. You would really have to try hard to mess that up.

It's just so obvious and lazy.
If I'd approached the BBC and said I've got an idea - Sherlock Holmes but in the modern age - they'd have kicked me out of the building. As they should!

Seriously, the show is awesome. I also had a few misgivings about a modern day Sherlock Holmes (I hate all of the crime drama clones and figured this would be yet another), but the Sherlock theme saves it in my eyes. And I especially love how Sherlock is sort of a jerk. Perhaps because of my smart-ass gene, but mostly because that's what I would expect from someone that intelligent.
Behold, God's Son is come unto this land, Of heaven's hot splendour lit to life, when she Of Thebes, even I, Dionysus, whom the brand Who bore me, Cadmus' daughter Semele, Died here. So, changed in shape from God to man... to show me in men's sight - Manifest God.

Steven Moffat is behind it?  Color me intrigued.

It's great in mystery and humour although I am a little disappointed by the villains.
