Elvis is a teaching tool in my classroom. I teach 7th graders, and one of my classroom walls is an Elvis shrine, with a couple of hundred Elvis items posted. It's an eyecatcher when they first enter the classroom in September. They want to know who that guy is with the sideburns and karate suit, and whether he's the same as the guy in the conservative blazer in the photo from the waist up. I have fun saying things like, "Do you know what Elvis would say if he saw you doing that, Kyle?"
To which Kyle responds, "You're a fantastic audience?"
To which I laugh and sing a few bars of "Are you Lonesome Tonight."
It's a kick. Fun career. And with summers off, you can't beat it.
What do you do, Paulhoff? Is your wife a serious Elvis fan?
