The Walking Dead, AMC series

Dionysus:
One of the few TV episodes that warranted multiple viewings. The first 20 minutes was seriously epic.

The lady with the katana popping up out of nowhere was awesome. I've never read the comics, so I wasn't expecting it. I was iffy on this show after the first half of season 2 dragged on (with the only interesting episode being the last one when Shane finally put a stop to the nonsense and cleared out the barn), but this season finale renewed my interest. Can't wait for season 3.

IrishJazz:
OK.... now that the new season is starting I tried to catch up with Season 2, which I missed.

The problem was the first episode, the one with all the zombies stumbling through the abandoned traffic.  Everybody seemed to screw up in a way that resulted in detection by a small number of zombies.  Finally the little girl was saved by the sheriff who hid her in a log and said he was going to distract the two zombies who were a few steps behind her, but apparently stopped long enough for a conversation to take place.  "I get winded, they don't," he said.

What sense does that make?  Where are these zombies getting their energy.  If they can run, why do they spend so much time shambling?  If they need to eat, why don't they just eat eachother?  I know, it would mean just one fat zombie after a while, but they seem awfully picky for mindless beasts.  The illogic of the show just keeps pulling me out.

I am glad to see that someone eventually shows up with a samurai sword, but is it really worth wading through 20 episodes of various other inventive ways of dispatching the decaying to get to that?

If you're reading the comics, then yes... the story is fucking awesome.

If you're only watching the show... I dunno. Just assume it's made for stupid people and try to enjoy it.

Have you never watched or read something featuring zombies before?  I don't really think the "illogic" that is bugging you is in any way specific to this show, but rather part of the general nature of a "zombie".  There are arguments presentable for each of the things that seem to be bugging you, but they all require at least a bit of a suspension of disbelief because of the fact that Zombies are by their nature, in any and all forms, fictional things.
