Also ABO antigens aren't proteins; they're carbohydrates (that was probably a slip).

A bit of this, bit of that. It's a carbohydrate anchored to a protein.

Most girls douche to smell better.  This is just as legitimate to me as bathing after exercise to smell better.  Smelling good to attract a mate seems like a big benefit to me.

I feel the douche has had unfair criticism :).

If a girl has an offensive odor coming from her vagina then she needs to see a gynecologist, not a syringe of vinegar.

If you think that a girl's vagina naturally smells offensive, then you may want to try lovers with penises. You'll be doing a favor to the girls you otherwise would have dated and somehow convinced that their bodies were something to be ashamed of. No one should risk infection, sterility, and death just to smell the way some, ahem, douche wants her to smell.

I've never come across a straight guy who has found the smell of a natural vagina offensive. I once asked a guy if he actually enjoyed the taste, to which he replied that it was good, although he wouldn't put it in a sandwich.

yeah Steve definitely made a mistake re "full moon" v "lunar eclipse". One is very common, one much less so.

On the douching issue, I IN NO WAY endorse the puppet_master's comment and women shouldn't be flushing themselves with vinegar, but it isn't fair to say that all girls taste good, even remotely the same, naturally. I am trying to be clinical and civil here. I know girls find some men's ejaculate varies in offensiveness also, this is just natural personal variation and women shouldn't risk infertility to please a guy.

AND if the taste of genitalia is a deal breaker for you, the relationship probably wasn't the real thing anyway...

According to some sex shows I've watched and listened to just using plain old soap is the best thing to smell fresh and clean.  I couldn't fathom anyone using vinegar to smell better. Why put that in your vagina? And more importantly, who wants to smell like vinegar anyway?

At the place inside the arctic circle where the sun fails to rise only once a year, you would get 48 hours of darkness, not 24. You would only get 24 hours of darkness if the sun just peaked above the surface for a moment two days in a row.

This is part of what the Rogues miss whenever Rebecca is away. I just don't think there's a way a guy can raise this point without sounding like a douche. She also fills the role of resident lib - was that earlier this year that Jay started spouting that stupid crap about a TG woman having to put "M" on their drivers' license because they used to have man parts? I've been listening back to the archive a lot this year so I might have that confused.

Rebecca, why are you turning this onto me like I am influencing why girls douche?  You're claiming the risk is way too high relative compared to the benefit of smelling better.  Some girls think that's an appropriate risk because it may help them get a guy.

I just wanted to state a motivation a woman may have to douche.  I guess the problem is most girls aren't aware of the harm a douche can cause - I know I wasn't aware of any (real) harm.  Because of this, I figured it functioned similar to perfume and cologne.

I'm a straight guy who has had a girlfriend before whose vagina smelt/tasted pretty terrible - but most girls I didn't notice.  Haha, and that would definitely not be a sandwich I'd order.

I "turned it onto" you because even after hearing about the dangers of douching, you defended it because you think it makes women's vaginas smell better. Obviously I already know why women use douche: because like any pseudoscientific bullshit, it is marketed using lies and misconceptions.

And no, I'm not claiming the risk is too high compared to "smelling better." Douche does not make a woman "smell better." It does nothing but cause harm. It solves a problem that does not exist and creates/perpetuates a new problem: the idea that a woman's vagina is disgusting and needs to be "fixed" if she's ever to achieve her greatest goal in life: finding a man. Bull. Shit.

And yes, you should know that if you had a girlfriend with a vagina that smelled terrible, she should have gone to see a doctor about it.

Glad I wasn't the only one to notice the "full Moon"/"lunar eclipse" screwup.  It's strange that none of the guys picked up on that.  Since the claim as stated was incorrect, we had fiction, science, and fiction.

As for douches -- I can't remember seeing an ad for Summer's Eve in years.  I hope it's going out of style.  Unless a woman has an infection, her vagina shouldn't smell bad.  I've rarely encountered any serious odor.  Incidentally, in the late 19th and early 20th century women were douching immediately after sex in an attempt at contraception.  Don't know how well it worked.

I "turned it onto" you because even after hearing about the dangers of douching, you defended it because you think it makes women's vaginas smell better.

I don't know if it does or not.  I have never done a smell test before and after it's application nor have I asked any girls I've been with if they douche.  Are you saying it doesn't change the smell so it's not effective to making it "smell better" to someone else?

Obviously I already know why women use douche: because like any pseudoscientific bullshit, it is marketed using lies and misconceptions.

This is a new topic to me, maybe there's more too it that what first appears.  If the douche claims it cleans and reduces infection, then that's a bullshit marketing strategy.  But I thought most girls use it to smell better - which I don't know if it does or not.

Bull. Shit.

So you're saying that we learn that a vagina is disgusting and then we unconsciously associate a vagina's smell and disgusting together?  I can see that to be the case.  But to support/refute that theory, you would need to find two groups of people one group who teaches the vagina is disgusting and the other who teaches that there is nothing to be a ashamed of.  The ones of the two groups who have smelt a vagina before could rate that smell.

I'm pretty sure this is would be supported since many smells are known to be culturally dependent.

And yes, you should know that if you had a girlfriend with a vagina that smelled terrible, she should have gone to see a doctor about it.

I was 15 at the time and that didn't even cross my mind.

Douche does not make a woman "smell better."

I think the internetz told me to put out a plate of vinegar to get rid of the odor of boiled eggs. is that BS? (and baking soda in the fridge for its odors, is there anything to that one?)

I have never done a smell test before

nor have I asked any girls I've been with if they douche.

I thought most girls use it to smell better

why'd you think that if that's not how it's marketed nor something anyone has ever told you? (do you just think vinegar smells good?)

what's your theory on coffee enemas? a woman thinks her boyfriend will prefer the smell of coffee?
