Ah yes, I had that problem when I started listening. There was some problem with that meant they can only have a certain number of episodes in the feed at once.

Today's Caustic Soda has reminded of an epic battle-axe story which wasn't discussed on that ep.

Quote
While Clifford and de Beaumont were engaged with Randolph the main English Army had moved out of the Torwood. The English advance continued inexorably with the advance guard under the Earls of Hereford and Gloucester riding to cross the Bannockburn and attack the Scots in the forest beyond.  To the English it seemed inevitable that the Scots would withdraw and avoid battle in view of the enormous disparity in numbers and arms.  It was at this point that Hereford’s nephew Sir Henry de Bohun galloped ahead of the advancing English array to challenge the Scots King to single combat.

Robert de Bruce rode forward to meet de Bohun.  The contrast in their equipment was stark.  De Bohun was fully armoured with lance and shield and rode a heavy destrier horse.  De Bruce rode a light palfrey and was armed with sword and short axe.  He was mounted to command infantry not to take part in a heavy cavalry charge. De Bohun rode at de Bruce with lance couched.  De Bruce evaded de Bohun’s lance point and as the Anglo-Norman thundered past him struck him a deadly blow on the head with his axe.  De Bohun fell dead.

Following their king’s triumph the Scots infantry rushed on the English army struggling to clear the Bannockburn, where the ford had compelled the mass of horsemen to pack into a narrow column.  A terrible slaughter ensued, the English knights impeded by the shallow pits concealed with branches.  Among the extensive English casualties the Earl of Gloucester was wounded and unhorsed, being rescued from death or capture by his retainers.

After the engagement such of the English as had come through the ford re-crossed the Bannockburn and the Scots infantry returned to their positions in the forests of the New Park.  The English army had been convincingly repelled.  Robert de Bruce’s immediate lieutenants reproached him for the risk he had taken in giving de Bohun single combat and the King simply regretted his broken axe.

Should all of the podcast episodes on iTunes? My download list only goes far back as Mudslides, when I know that there are more.

From the Caustic Soda FAQ:
Quote
Why can’t I see the all the episodes in iTunes?
The answer is a bit technical. iTunes’s podcast list is fed to them via a special RSS feed. Our main RSS feed goes through Google’s “FeedBurner” system which gives us information on how many people are subscribed at any given time.

Unfortunately, FeedBurner has a maximum feed size of 512KB (it’s text-only, so MP3s and images don’t count). Once that limit is hit, it ceases to update. To fix this problem we had to set a maximum of 60 items in our main feed, and our main podfeed uses the exact same limitation, so iTunes will only show our latest 60 episodes.

There is now a solution!

All posts are now tagged with their season number, and each tag has its own feed, so if you’d like to get Season 1 of Caustic Soda simply subscribe via feed to:

http://www.causticsodapodcast.com/tag/season-01/feed

For other seasons simply replace the “01″ with the two digit season number.

In iTunes you can manually subscribe by going to Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast and pasting in the full URL above.

Enjoy!

Damnit... Id just decided on steak over chicken for dinner, and then they got the article about the swans just as it was too late for me to reconsider.

We are on vacation.

Also, in Google Listen, I have constant access to all the episodes. /superior. I've never not had the full episode list.

So I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure we eat Chickens and Turkeys rather than Swans and Pelicans because they are flightless and easy to contain to an enclosed space.  Totes with you though on wanting to try Swan now too and I'm shocked, SHOCKED that the Pelican Fondue was left un TM'd.

a.
we also eat ducks and deer, it just requires a hunting season.
maybe we don't eat swan because it's way more rare than duck?
b.
unless you farm a turkey so fat that it can't fly, it can fly.

Well I'll be damned... I never knew that.  In my defense though; they don't fly well, or often.

Wild chickens in India (which google tells me are called red jungle fowl) roost in trees. Domesticated chickens on the other hand are terrible flyers.

My sources are primarily anecdotal--a friend of my father's kept chickens for a while but didn't bother about them having wings. They were free range--eg, ranged across a yard. They developed the skill to fly short distances; they were domestic stock after all. But just enough to fly over fences.

even with clipped wings they can do a bit of a Wright Brothers flight can't they?
