Katherine Harris... she so craaaazy.

Here's the link:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/28/senate.harris.ap/index.html

Some choice comments:

+) Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told".

+) "If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin."

+) ...the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

+) ...separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Let's remember that this isn't a fringe wingnut... this is a US congressperson running for senate.

Damn I'm ashamed to be a modern American sometimes.

She was Secretary of State in Florida in 2000.  So yes.  Also, ironically, It's not God that chooses our leaders as she has said, it's Katherine Harris that chooses our leaders.

Does that mean Katherine Harris is god?  No wonder I am an atheist (from Florida no less!)

Katherine Harris made a significant contribution to the fraudulent Florida election, but it was the supreme court who ultimately chose the president. Perhaps the Supremes are God?

Katherine Harris - not to be confused with Sam Harris.

Her anti-clone. The counter-Christ. A fiery demon! Walking on the dark side of truth and justice. Forever tied in an epic battle of self-evident truth all mankind has come to recognize... and godlessness. A power struggle that threatens to consume all who are caught between it...

We also have crackpots in the rest of the world (I live in Australia), but they rarely rise beyond that...they remain fringe crackpots...unlike in America, where this sort of thing is completely mainstream and are running the country.

Same with creationists...yes, there are a few here and there but...politicians publicly admitting that they believe the bible as a literal account of creation? That'd be political suicide over here. Pretty sure it'd be the same in Europe.

You have a lot more creationists than you want to admit

Aramis,

There are politicians who are creationists in Australia too, they don't like to admit to such as they know it damages their appearance. Case and point Steve Fielding, who on Q&A upon lots of probing and questioning admitted to being a creationist but didn't clarify if he was a YEC.
crackpots are around in Aus but they're calculating enough to realise they won't get into office unless they hide their crazy beliefs

My point exactly...if they are creationists, they are either embarrassed by it or at the very least know that the public will slam them for such a thing. Very different from USA, where every single candidate is fighting to see who is more religious.

Remember...we've got an atheist prime minister in Australia. She has publicly said so. When is that going to happen in the States?
