Coffee. I might pop open a Bigfoot from Sierra Nevada later. But for now, coffee. Stupid chores.

House red wine. I don't know what it is. It's acceptable. It's intoxicating. The airline is giving it away free. At the moment that's good enough for me.

I'm drinking a shot of grey goose just to get me ready for bed. Does that make me an alcoholic?

No--drinking the entire bottle would make you an alcoholic. And also dead.

If you CAN'T go to bed without a shot of vodka, then maybe you're a bit of an alcoholic. If you can't get out of bed in the morning without a shot of vodka, then you're definitely an alcoholic ;)

One of these days I want to start drinking in the morning just to see what all the fuss is about. On my day off, of course. I suspect I'd get bored of drinking alcohol pretty quickly, though. My limit is one or two beers, depending on their size. Last night I was at a party and only drank four or five beers over a several hour period. Enough to get happy, but not enough to give me the dizzies. And I even left the party at a reasonable time because I was getting sleepy. :P

It typically ends badly or passing out around noon. There's a short period of odd merriment and being drunk so early in the day. Then it devolves into a handicap, unless there are enough others drunk people around you to then become a nuisance. That's really the best you can hope for is being a nuisance. I do start drinking pretty early sometime, but never morning early. I get up at 4am and off work at 2:30 so will hit happy hour but even on my off days can’t start in the morning.

Thankfully I'm not so far gone as to get drunk in the morning. I don't actually drink enough to get drunk, I just found that vodka before bed helps me sleep. Do you think that's anymore or less unhealthy than taking zolpidem tartrate?

Seeing as alcohol disturbs the sleep cycle, I'd say you should stick with the scary chemical. :P

Day drinking is FUN but as you might imagine there are lots of potential pitfalls. And doing it all the time is probably a bad idea.

And yes, alcohol disrupts normal sleep architecture, and for that reason, among others, it is not a medically-accepted sleep aid, unlike zolpidem. But at such a low dose (one shot), I don't know if it causes too big a problem.

If you're already having sleeping problems it might.

Speaking of drinking, I just finished a Bigfoot Barleywine. Twas delicious.
