Just ordered my $48 "Newspaper Album" (with the pretense of it being part of my Valentines day gift for my fiancee). Her comment about it being called a "Newspaper Album" was: "Oh, it's named after two dying mediums."

Awesome!!!!!!

I'll be buying the mp3 version.  I don't own a record player and I haven't purchased a CD in years.  My goal is to have as few physical items in my house as possible and buy everything digitally.  hell, if they start making pizza delivery digital, count me in!

In any case, can't wait for the album to be released.  Any idea why the WAV version is more expensive than the mp3 version?  Is WAV better quality?

WAV is the largest and highest quality format.  I'm actually surprised they didn't go with .flac, which is half the size (because it's compressed) but still retains the quality if you unpack it.  The cost difference is probably to offset the bandwidth requirements.

Here's some nerdy audio quality info  ;D

Thanks for the info and the link.

I think I'll just stick w/ MP3.  I only listen to music via my iPod (usually plugged into my car or a small boom box I have at work.)  I can't imagine the sound quality would be substantially different on either of those, since neither has particularly great speakers.  I could be wrong though....

Most people are entirely used to the loss of audio quality due to mp3s at this point, since mp3s make storage of massive collections an easy task.  No one would store WAV files for the long term.  If anything, you'd burn WAV onto a CD in order to basically reproduce what a record company would sell you.  You probably won't miss the quality.

Release date pushed up. Album available now. I have to wait until I'm with my fiancee this afternoon to listen to it. We're kinda crazy like that.

Before In Rainbows was released she refused to listen to any Radiohead for an entire year. Every time a song would come on in a restaurant or bar she would run out with her fingers in her ears. Her reasoning was that it worked her up for the new album, although it proved to be a pretty big inconvenience in certain situations.

For the record, it's a very short album.  Total playing time is like 38 minutes.

I really like the single, LotusFlower and the video for it is also chock full of Thom-y goodness.

I would also recommend reading the lyrics for all you poetry-inclined types.  I really enjoyed them.

The rest of the album is not grabbing me yet, but I've only had one listen-through.

That's awesome, on my first listen, that's the song I instantly thought should be the single!

All in all, it's not a groundbreaking album.  I think the latter 1/3rd of the album is the best part, but I am definitely enjoying it.
