If just the Rand fans go to see it, it will make a crapload of money.

Possibly. It's a movie with limited appeal.. that's not to say it doesn't look interesting. I might go see it myself, but in all likelihood I won't. I'll watch it if it's on Netflix Instant, but that's about it.

yeah I'll wait till it's on netflix. Hasn't this movie been cursed since the book came out? I mean haven't many people tried many times to make it and it always fell though? It is an epic tale and while I know longer subscribe to that world view, would like to see that if its done, it's at least done well.  Looks like this could be?

Apparently the movie started filming a mere two days before the rights were due to expire.

ETA: I should probably mention that the rights were originally bought in the late 1990s or something, and were only good for 15 years, so it just barely got started in time.

I'll see it in the theater, if I can. Or, get in on Netflix as soon as possible. Probably, I will buy it, which is something I rarely do.

I really do hope it makes a shitload of money.

You guys are all commenting on the merits of making the book into a movie (which for full disclosure I think is a terrible idea. I just don't see how a story like the one in Atlas Shrugged could possibly be entertaining in that format) but what really struck me was how atrocious the acting was in that trailer. Good god. It was like watching film school students directing a bunch of D level actors reading lines from a prompter.

You do get that in that scene the characters are acting, right?  I mean the characters that the actors are portraying are putting on an act for one another and there's an underlying air of hostility in the room.  The "bad acting" (which I assume you mean to be the emotionally vapid expression by most of the actors while delivering most of their lines) is absolutely appropriate for the situation.

I recall a play I watched (a musical).  There was this couple and they each had a recurring theme song they sang on their own throughout the play (slightly different and with different lyrics each time).  Then at their break up (towards the end of the play) they sang their songs together as a duet.  The songs didn't meld together and there was quite a bit of dissonance, but that was entirely appropriate.  it was allegorical to their break up that their songs just did not work together.

The biggest problem with the book was that the covers were way to far apart.  So now it's a three part movie?  Are the endless and repetitious "it wasn't my fault" rants going to be translated into ten minutes each of screen time?

This could have been one, good, long movie.  I don't think it's going to be worth sitting through three movies, though.

I wonder if Rand haters will protest outside the theaters.

Probably great PR. Maybe the producers will hire protesters to stand with pickets. "This is the film you must not see."
