Yeah, turns out dragonglass kills Others/White Walkers instantly. Little effect on the wights though. But as to who stashed the weapons, you don't even get a hint of an answer to that until book 5.

Coldhands probably did it. Or Bloodraven/the one-eyed crow. Or Coldhands, who was controlled by Bloodraven the whole time.

Wow, wonder if the chubby guy survives the white walkers. Maybe he becomes one himself? Is he carrying that bag of tricks they found? Maybe that has anti-zombie magic.

he knew Sam had dragonglass? But wouldn't he then pause and re-evaluate their assault in some way, guessing that many of the Night's Watch had dragonglass?

The angles were a bit muddled, maybe he wasn't looking directly at Sam as much as the audience, or perhaps he saw no threat in Sam and simply wanted to cleanse the Fist of his ancient enemies the Nights Watch.

Which then raises the question of why a White Walker would be killing off stragglers during the Watch's retreat if they only mean to force them back behind the wall? Perhaps the one Sam kills was merely a curious child, only a few centuries old by White Walker standards.

Really?  I think Hardwick is great.  The Nerdist TV show not so much, bu I think he does a great job on Talking Dead, and I really like the Nerdist podcast.
