The promo is just ridiculous.

Wow!  I'm excited/nervous about this (and I'm sure everyone reading this understands the ambivalence)

and man, yeah, that promo.....*shaking head*

Go Steve!
 :munch:

Even if Dr. Oz edits the shit out of you, this still may be for the greater good of more exposure, on less crappy shows. Just getting yourself out there is good.

Wow.  Go Steve!

I hope we'll hear a Randi-esque behind-the-scenes story on the podcast.

DVR set to record Tuesday at 10am.   Should be interesting, although I bet they portray him as a closed minded horrible person who wants to see people die.

Oh man, that promo made me cringe. Kudos to Steve though, I really admire his chops. I can picture it now, a crowd full of Dr. Oz's bewitched followers nodding thoughtfully at everything that oozes from his mouth as if they knew anything other than "Oprah likes this guy therefore his word is gospel". Meanwhile Steve's reasoned arguments are met with worried gazes and concerned shakes of the head....

What's real and what's a lie? Well, if Dr. Oz says it, it's probably a lie.

I'm almost positive they're going to make Steve look bad or dismissive. I'm going to revel in the irony of seeing Dr. Oz being the dismissive one when Steve tries to explain his position on homeopathy. I coula already see Dr. Oz regurgitating all the old arguments and making hasty segues when he doesn't have a proper retort.

Can you watch the episode anywhere for free?  I'm living in Japan and thankfully you can't find Dr. Oz on TV here.

It will all resolve to the proverbial "eye of the beholder." But if anyone's got a chance at relieving his ignorant brethren of some truth-blinding motes, it's Dr. Steve and his hundred-pound testicles.

There's a couple of points i'd like to see Steve make

1)  The heart of SBM is giving patients the best care possible, it is not about denying people anything.
2)  Point out Dr.  Oz's descent into being a wackjob
3)  Not really a point, but I hope he doesn't get caught up in using typical conservative scientific language.  That sort of language is appropriate for a journal article or a science conference, but not a TV show.  From the short promo clip, it did seem like he didn't do this.
4)  Related to 3, he needs to make the point that the science is crystal clear and not ambiguous on most of alt med modalities.
5)  This is maybe most important of all. Not all alternative medicine has the same implausibility and he isn't against these treatments because they are alternative, but because they are not properly tested.

Very exciting! This is a slam-dunk for skepticism, no matter how it turns out. Even if they edit it to make him look like a total asshole, it's exposure. And even if none of the lay-person audience is convinced, or even instilled with some doubt, he will get media exposure. So, at the very least, this means name-recognition and hopefully a place in one more journalist's rolodex. There's no such thing as bad publicity, they say.

(Still brave, though, Steve!) :waycool:
