7.5/10

Movies about growing old and facing loneliness always choke me up.  This one dealt with miscarriage (which shocked me for disney) and broken families as well as the overarching theme of the thinness of our dreams versus the depth of our reality.

It had the happy ending and silliness expected, but was so well done I don't fault that.

Citizen Kane - 8/10

This was a really, really tough one for me to review having never seen it before and not really being familiar with it other than it topping a great many lists of the best films of all time.  Wells was excellent in it I thought and really stands out from the rest of the cast in talent and sheer gravitas, but the others were very good as well.  I particularly enjoyed the method he chose for exploring Kane's life in both conception and execution.  It was an especially nice touch to see the people's current perspective compared with their earlier versions.  I also enjoyed the famous ending and the many messages it relayed.  Still, the pacing was a little slow and some parts of it were a little melodramatic, but I guess that was par for the course at this point in time.  It's certainly not for everyone in this modern audience, but it's nice to have a movie not talking down to me and not being just plain mindless.

I can't take my eyes off that movie. 10/10 for me.

Yeah, it's one of the movie-buff movies which I think is actually worthy of its reputation.
+1. Fun fact: this movie had more special effects than Star Wars.

Both.

She has a miscarriage, and thereafter they are unable to have a kid.

EDIT:  A quick Google reveals that it is open to interpretation on if there were a miscarriage.  I got out of the scene that there was and that revealed that they were infertile.

Neither critics or viewers could figure out how some of the shots were obtained. There were many filming techniques invented for that film.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

While technically they don't say, the couple is depicted as painting a nursery with a crib in it.  People don't generally buy a crib and paint a nursery until after they know she's pregnant.  Then they are shown at a doctor's office and she's crying. I took that pretty strongly as miscarriage.

Idiocracy 7/10

Good satire. Always kept my interest. It's rare these days that I don't multitask while watching a film but this one kept me curious what would come next.
There were a couple laugh out loud moments. I expect more of those in a comedy but the satire was so witty that it's hard to laugh when cringing.

There Will Be Blood

8/10

all I knew going in was the promo pic (which I thought was more of an army lookin' thing than ye old timey oil drillin'), and that Paul F. Tompkins was in it. oh, and that everyone here likes it.

nice suspenseful film, nice character study,

Can't say it's hilarious through-out or that the plot is terribly interesting, but it was a decent comedy.

In fairness, that's a TV show and not a movie.
