Just did a quick google, and learned that anachronism has a pretty specific meaning when used to talk about a film. That's obviously not the meaning I was using; I was talking about the juxtaposition of the modern world against elements of the film. Bit more meta, and probably not the most useful choice of term in this context.
Brave: 7/10Saw it with my 5-year old daughter.Lots of fun. Really well done, appropriate story. My daughter was thrilled the whole time.

I always thought "anachronism" was specific to things out of place in a sense of old or out-dated. Like someone wearing a poodle skirt in 2012. Does it work the other way too?
Reference "medieval" roleplaying games for discussion of the topic from that angle.

I don't understand this sentence.I sloppily used "reference" as a verb, as in "go look up", and then put "medieval" in quotes because fantasy RPGS aren't set in anything even close to actual medieval times. But it is a topic that comes up a lot in those circles.

Gothcha. But does that serve as evidence? I don't think it's accurate to call a space laser in ancient Japan an "anachronism."

I don't think it's accurate to call a space laser in ancient Japan an "anachronism."Maybe or maybe not, but things like gender equity in (quasi-)mediaval Europe, or naming your character "Neo" and having it wear a leather coat and sunglasses... That's called "anachronistic" in any gaming circles. Inserting obvious modern references into ostensibly historical times.
"The Nazi Officer's Wife," which is as dull as it sounds. It's a documentary about how the Nazis were bad. Really bad. We turned it off half an hour in. I already know Nazis are bad.
