Saw it last night. A good light relief smash-fest, with some pure comedy moments. I saw it in 3D which as usual was annoying and headache inducing...but overall pretty enjoyable.

Unfortunately it was marred for me by the stupid magical bracelet product placement:

Sure...it was subtle. But the mere fact that Marvel allowed their brand to be slapped onto such bollocks pisses me off :(

I was also too distracted by seeing that to enjoy the scene it was in fully as I was worried it was going to turn into some pseudoscience advert, but also realized that had I not heard about the magic bracelet thing here, I wouldn't have thought of it as that, as it has nothing to do with magic magnet powers or anything,

(probably not much of a spoiler, but I don't want to get yelled at. )
So for people going to watch it, try not to be worried by that, it is only a "magic bracelet" because we can't unknow what we now know about the merchandising.

Now, if we add up Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Dr. Horrible; none of which were films, then I think he's surpassed Smith by a long shot.  Although, I find myself laughing harder at Smith's dialog most of the time.  There are exceptionally funny bits in Whedon's work...but they don't come as often as with Smith.
Just because I'm a pedant....

Buffy WAS a movie, quite a bit before it was a tv series. Whedon wrote and directed it as far as I know.
Firefly was not a movie but Serenity was a movie of the Firefly story and was a damn good adventure movie.

Whedon wrote the original story of the Buffy movie, but it was heavily re-written by others and he did not direct it. In fact, he was so disgusted with what was done with his script that he left the project half-way through filming.

I saw this last night and yes, it lives up to the hype.

Reports from my buddy Corey, a film critic for Detroit's free weekly, the Metro Times are that the movie is a 100% home run, including a final post credits twist that will have hardcore Avengers comic fans (like him) shitting themselves.  The press screening was very well recieved....
So when are we going to get a Batman versus Superman movie?

I watched it past weekend.
I didn't notice the bracelet thing until it was mentioned here. Like miisa said, it's really not relevant. It is akin to making a teapot in the shape of Thor's hammer. Just think that the movie had the bracelets first and colantotte made their bracelets to match that.

Awesome movie BTW. The Wife and I really enjoyed watching it.

Marvel merchandises all kinds of crap.
It's the idea that they are endorsing someone who tries to con people into thinking the crap actually is useful.

One would assume those are mini-repulsors, yes.

Are folks really so obsessed with seeing power band braclets or whatever the f#$k they're called and rooting out the pseudoscience injustice in the world, that they will let such things bother them when they watch a movie about gods and space monsters attacking the Earth?

EDIT: Could very well be a homing device.  I guessed repuslors because I haven't seen the movie yet, but Iron Man's primary weapon always seems to shoot from his hands....

That's what I thought too. The woo bracelets are designed to look like Stark's bracelets, but I highly doubt the one's in the movie are intended to be magnet therapy bracelets.

Yeah, big fuss over nothing. If you didn't know about the tie-in, you wouldn't have thought about it. The bracelets take up about 10 seconds of screen time.

It's perfectly reasonable to be annoyed by the bracelets. It's another thing to expect that Marvel would make an effort to ensure that its merchandising for a film in a genre that is explicitly founded on pseudoscience of the 50s and 60s be scientifically sound.

Serenity was the one movie I had mentioned in the previous post.  I have seen the Buffy Movie, in fact, it was the reason I wouldn't watch the Buffy TV series when it came out.  Way too camp for my taste at the time.  Of course, the series was very different from the movie.

It took a while for the Buffy TV series to find its legs, but by the end of the first season it was worth watching, and remained so for most of the rest of its run.  Somehow Angel never did it for me.  Dollhouse took a long time to get interesting too, although once it started it never let up.
