The Avengers movie
« on: Apr 27, 2011, 10:06:07 AM »
Whedon's Avengers movie will feature Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and more. It is currently slated for a May 4, 2012 release.

"Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that)," Whedon said. "Day one. That's right. We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene..."

Sounds promising!

Not a big fan of Whedon. Hopefully this won't produce the same intense feeling of fakeness that everything I've ever seen by him has instilled in me.

I mean, I've watched the things he's made and liked them, but they've always had this strange sense of wrongness about them that I can't put my finger on.

Not a big comic book movie fan, but I will watch this. I know I will, as I would watch The Yellow Pages if it said "By Joss Whedon".

I wouldn't blame Whedon for 'Alien: Resurrection'.  Apparently there was extremely little left of his script by the time the film was actually made and he stated everything they could have done wrong with it, they did.

I would trust Whedon to write and direct my restroom breaks at work.

I've always though of whedon as a upgraded Kevin Smith.  Whedon's done some things I liked and some I didn't.  Like smith he works best when his actors and himself are all on the same page (IE Dr.  Horrible).

Yeah looking at his track record I'm sure why people consider him a god.  Firefly was great but lets face we only got one season,  Buffy was a mixed bag.

Don't forget Angel, which really took off by the second season. Dollhouse was interesting, but he was clearly confused by his creation until the last few episodes. The Serenity movie is what turned me on to Firefly, since I saw the movie before I even knew there was a TV show. If Whedon is given the freedom he needs, The Avengers could be awesome.

I've got say, Whedon did an early script for Titan A.E., but only two scenes remained by the time it hit the screens, though I think most could guess which two.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I'm ready to forgive him for shooting my favorite comic book character off into space merged with a giant bullet...

Dollhouse also suffered from significant executive meddling. But I agree, if left to his own measures, he'll produce gold, but sadly he has a bad history of suits ruining his works.
