Excellent work LC. Everything looks to be in order
I'll send you my details asap.

Will we be starting at tier two, or will that depend on the initial response? (for example, if 15-20 respond in the affirmative, will we start at tier 3?)

We'll start at no less than tier 2.  I'll upgrade us when both these conditions are met: performance warrants it and we can afford it.

Great news everybody!  Notch has announced 1.6 will be coming next week.  On one hand, this could be a rocky transition for the server given the changes in 1.6 but on the other hand:  maps, nether portals (which obviates the need for player constructed teleport plugins) .... trap doors I believe and other goodies.  Also, he has confirmed a "sky" dimension but its not clear whether we'll see that in 1.6 or not.

Sweeeeeet!

I will not be staying at tier 3 past the first pay period, but I intend to start there in order to make sure that this get's off the ground.  Will send you my info later tonight.

Hello,

I had been playing single-player Minecraft for only a few days when I heard "Minecrack" mentioned on the SGU and thought what a perfect description!  I've spent a little time exploring your creations on the SGU server and I'm quite impressed.  I honestly don't know how I'd ever acquire the time or skill to build some of the things you folks have built, but I'm still learning.  I would like to continue to explore your world, and perhaps even pursue some small builds of my own.  I've asked LC to sign me up, and I look forward to exploring your creations on the new server.  See you all there!

I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem to make sure the rogues have a spot.  In the short term when the server is operating at capacity, non-members will have to be bumped manually.  However, if the server is full of members, I wouldn't feel comfortable bumping anybody regardless of who was trying to get on (unless its me trying to manage the server).  I doubt they would either.

In the medium run I should be able to configure priority slots for certain accounts and have most of it handled automagically.

Sounds great. I almost thought you already made the transition, the connection this past week has been extremely well, basically zero lag.

Anyway, there are a few minor ideas/suggestions/questions that might be worth considering.

- Will it be possible to run serveral worlds at once? Experience shows that people often get bored with a map after 1-2 months, even if it contains super epic builds. Even now the awesome SGU commune is virtually uninhabited (as you said in the video, once you finish building something, there isn't much point going back). I played on a server before that added a freshly seeded map every quarter and gave all people the ability to teleport from one spawnpoint to another (but not within maps).

- The highest tier might be given the power to change the time of day.

- Lockable chests and automatic inventory chest upon death would be neat.

- Have you thought about a repair/shop system?

Lyk, I think the idea is to get the new server up and running to see what  it can handle and then decide on what extras we can have while keeping the lag reasonable.

That's because the server's been running on Peaceful. Turns out having lots of mobs causes massive lag.

Greetings everybody.  Based on the pledges I have received so far the server will definitely be solvent for the first quarter.  If the tier we start with is adequate then we'll be solvent for at least 6 months (by which I mean if server population dips to a fraction of the members currently pledged after the first quarter, it will remain open for at least another quarter.  That means build with confidence!

Soon I will send out payment instructions to everybody that has contacted me with info about how to make payment.  I will also post a rough schedule for migration, roll out of the base plugins and roll out of your benefits (some of which will require substantial work from me).  However, don't fear that you're going to miss out on goodies -- if delay is unavoidable your services will be credited toward the next subscription period.
