Bunsen's no-holds-barred review of Duke Nukem Forever:

"Wow, this looks like shit.

Wow, this plays like shit.

Wow, it's over already?

Wow, this took over a decade?  I've played better games that were made over a solid month."

i thought the old duke nukem 3D kinda sucked. it did some good things, but it did not compare to its contemporaries, like quake, or unreal tournament, or even doom/doom2. from what i've seen in reviews this title is on the level with games of 5 years ago. i'm not expecting a great game, but i'd still play this new one, for the novelty/nostalgia aspect.

also for the boobs. obviously.

It's not terribly nostalgic.

Reviews on Metacritic are relatively poor.  It has a 50 (out of 100).  I think I'll pass... :-\

This game is a complete piece of shit. 10 year old graphics. The gun-play sucks. This should be a .99 cent game on XBLA or in the bargain bin at Walmart. I can't believe this game was actually published. I pre-ordered this. What a waste of 45 bucks.

I'm a huge Duke Nukem fan from back in the day.

While I expected a bit of a let down after a decade + wait, the game truly is bad.  The single player game is boring.  It's linear and very heavily scripted.

There is some hope on multiplayer.  My friend and I played through all the maps.  A few of them are decent.  Maybe some decent maps will get made.  The also need to patch the "only two weapons" bullshit.  Duke Nukem is about blowing shit up in amusing ways.  Realism shouldn't be a concern.

Realism shouldn't be a concern.

Whoever decided to add realism to a Duke Nukem game needs to be drug out into the street and shot. No wonder it took so long to come out.

From what I hear it's better than Daikatana

Questionable.  I just sold my copy - playing some Just Cause 2 to clean my palette and get some gratuitous 'splodin going.

Since the gameplay looks boring, it's probably more entertaining to watch Jesse play the game than it's to play it myself.

I thought it was Jesse Ventura.  Imagine my disappointment...

IT starts with a guy pissing.  Wow that's shaking things up, real rebellious stuff there.

Seriously though the first was a horrible game also not sure why people cared so much about a sequel.  I think only people who were 12 when the first one came out cared about it.

Beyond the juvenile crap in the first (and I certainly don't disagree with you there,) it's easy to look back on DN3D and call it horrible.

But you have to remember that at the time that game was revolutionary.  Multi-level verticle level design, passive weaponry (like the traps, pipe bombs, freeze & shrink ray), and a serious upgrade to FPS multiplayer all marked Duke Classic as one of the most innovative shooters in history, right behind Doom and Quake.

New Duke... not so much.

Yea I said the graphics were shitty, and someone started reminiscing about games that used only 2 pixels. The point is some kid could of made this bullshit on his weekend off. It's so unbelievably horrible compared to the level of detail you see in even like.. a kids game. It's like they did it to be retro or something. The gameplay and like... Duke Nukem awesomeness would have to be pretty fuckin awsome to make up for the sheer lack of effort put forth in the graphics area. Evidently it's just a total steaming pile.
