It's a matter of taste so I can't say "untrue", but I can say "disagree".

I have a fondness for pop music from the 1950s through the 1990s (and a passing familiarity, if not actual fondness, for pop music from the most recent decade).  Nothing, not even "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" or "Barbie Girl", comes close to terrible like "Friday".  Hell, "Disco Duck" is better by a country mile.

not gunna watch that, but personally I don't have a problem with auto-tune [that is different to the problem I have with any other kind of singing I dislike the sound of].
she can't play the drums but her songs have drumming in them, she can't sing well, but someone auto-tunes her vocals... who really cares how a "good" outcome is produced, whose talent (the singer or the tuner) is shown.

Wait a minute.

If she can't sing, and she can't run the studio, and she can't play an instrument, and she writes terrible lyrics, what do we need her for?

At that point, doesn't your argument necessitate finding somebody who can do one of those things, and putting their name on the cover instead of a literally completely replaceable "artist?"

she has a voice. apparently she can sing enough to be worth editing, just like a guitarist can play guitar, yet we still want to add the distortion unit to make the noise sound more pleasing.

does anyone call her an artist? hell, if she's not even a 'singer/songwriter', then she's only different from the studio musicians recording for her album in that she's the brand that's being sold.

Yeah, I think that you've really illuminated for me my problem with Rebecca Black.

I hate when people are a "brand."  If you have to "sell" something to make it "good," it probably wasn't very good.

Just in case someone disagreed, I'm pretty sure the no-autotune version was a complete fake.  If she had come out with this video first, her mother's point would have been proven.  It's not easy to succeed in the music industry.  Her success is basically the same as William Hung's.
