This could be good, but without Carl Sagan's writing I'm not sure how good.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be fine. As long as MacFarlane stays as far away from attempting to be "funny" with his scripts as possible I'm sure we'll all enjoy it.

I'm fine with humor in the miniseries, as long as Neil deGrasse Tyson writes it. :)

I don't think there needs to be a remake.  The original is just one 70s hairstyle away from perfection.

And at what point will Cosmos be spun-off into one or two other series with the exact same plot and formula?

 I like Dr. Tyson, I enjoy watching his interviews, listening to his lectures.
 However I just can't get into Nova, something about the show.

A clear sign of someone who has never actually watched the other series.  American Dad ditched all of the formulas in Family Guy and its for the best.
