Has anyone picked this book up yet? I've read the first two chapters so far and I'm really enjoying it. It's a really funny and interesting, but with a serious theme, collection of anecdotes. So far I'd give it a 7 out of 10. :)

Had some trouble finding my jaw at times: especially on 'third language'. Far more intimate and funny than your typical "atheist" book - which it probably isn't - more of a celebration of life.

Just finished reading it this weekend. It's not particularly deep, but it is entertaining. He did point out a few points about atheism that I hadn't considered much. Namely, that most believers are only half-way believers, i.e. they will do what the voices tell them to do, but only if they generally agree with what the voices are telling them to do.

I listened to it as an audiobook.  Possibly the most hilarious thing I've ever heard was Penn telling the story of the blow dryer........

Please read what I say, not what you choose to imagine I meant to say.
Please don’t try to argue about statements I never made.

I listened to the audiobook too.
He's funny I'll give him that and the blowdryer nearly made me cry.

I'm no libertarian, so I don't agree with everything he has to say, but overall it's entertaining, even touching.
The man has some guts, I'll give him that.

I like Penn, but while this book has some high points, it's very uneven -- much like Patton Oswalt's latest effort.

I found the chapters dealing with his family to be very moving, and enjoyed some of the "behind-the-scenes" looks at David Blaine and Sigfried & Roy, but some of the other essays I found a bit out of place...

However, as an author myself, I know how hard it is to tell all the stories you want to tell and "keep it in the theme"- so while I felt it missed the mark a few times, overall, I'd recommend it...

I almost done with the Audiobook.  He does read with real passion, especially when it comes to his family.  I think it would be a good place for someone losing their faith to start to lose more of it and feel ok with it.

The story about the Jewish Atheist Communion was terrific.
