Last night I briefly turned on the radio and I heard Britney Spears' new song "Criminal" for the first time. I was immediately struck by how ridiculous the lyrics were. "Mama I'm in love with a criminal"?? Really?? Somebody wrote out those lyrics, and other people looked at them and said, "Yeah, those sound like really good lyrics! Let's go for it!"
Little did I know, though, that I had only yet experienced a tiny fraction of the ridiculousness of this song. I mentioned my thoughts to my wife, and she told me that I should see the music video.
I did. I was in tears from the laughter.
Somehow they managed to take the most amateur script, acting, and dance moves, and combine those with high production values to make something that passes as a professional music video but is so terrible and cheesy that I was seriously almost on the floor laughing at it.
I've only seen Britney Spears' other music videos in passing, so I can't say for sure but I think this may be the worst music video she's ever done! It's brilliant!
