only particularly good or amusingly bad representatives of culture are preserved

I was just thinking of editing my post talking about the missing gap between Howard the Duck and Empire Striked Back...

I don't disagree flat out, but I think you are forgetting The Wire.

According to Stephen Fry, Columbo was the best TV show in history.

Both were good, but "Six Feet" definitely had the best series ending of any show on television.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

Agreed 100%.

That damn ending made me realize my mortality at 20 in a way I hadn't before (Claire was born a month after me I think).  I really had a crisis after watching the ending.  I realized that I was going to die in a way I hadn't before, and it scared the piss out of me.  I didn't sleep for two days.

I'm still the only one to vote for Treme? Weird.
There's, another example. See, here I'm now sitting by myself, uh, er, talking to myself. That's, that's chaos.

Yeah, I've heard really great things about The Wire. Is it as "real" as Six Feet Under? As in, there really aren't any cliches, random stuff just happens, things that happen don't have to tie in to other things? That was what drew me in to that show. ASoIaF/GoT as well.

Tied with TNG, IMO.

I really like Treme, it's just not in my top 5. I don't think there's enough of a point or enough of a distinctive plot arch. Interesting and entertaining things happen to these great characters, but there's no real motivation driving the story forward. I'm probably wrong, and maybe it's too subtle for me, but that's how I see it.

I've never seen the Shield, whichc I have heard was also great, but it is the most real life "cops/robbers" show.  None of the glitz and glamour of CSI, it shows how real cops would work to build a case, and how real robbers work to prevent their arrest.

The Shield is one of my favorite shows of all time. Probably my favorite in the drama category. Not the most real, but man was that a fantastic show.

Also had a phenomenal ending. Nothing as satisfying as Six Feet Under, but still damned satisfying.

Watch the whole series, there may be a few weak moments in the show, but they are few and far between.

I always hear about this supposedly fabulous Six Feet Under ending, but I suspect that's all I'll ever do: hear about it. I watched the first season and about half of the second, until I decided it wasn't brilliant enough for it to be worth getting depressed every time.

I watched the first ep a few months back and never went on. It just seems so dated.
