Somestimes a Ciigar is just an Alien popping out of a guys chest, no subtext needed.  Scripts get changed in movies every day.

If it were just fans hypothesizing I'd agree, but this is the actual creators saying "we intended for this to be metaphorical."

Oh, nvm then.

Viral video for Prometheus featuring Peter Weyland (Guy Pierce) giving a talk at TED 2023.  Pretty cool actually:

Dude, Bunsen, I laughed so hard it hurt.

One of the previews I saw showed a bunch of eggs.  they didn't look exactly like the eggs from Alien, but I wasn't to sure what else they could be.  I also recall reading (though now I can't find the source, so I may be remembering this 100% wrong) that the studio was sending out intentionally conflicting info as to whether this was an actual Alien prequel/reboot or not to help keep the per-release chatter up.

Full trailer now up.  This seems like it could be very, very cool but it also wouldn't be the first time I've been fooled by a trailer.  Still, I may have to see this in theaters.

Looks pretty cool...

My only concern is Im getting pretty tired of the whole "save the earth" thing lately. I want to see the personal level of the crew trying to survive. Hopefully theres enough focus on that and not too much on the race to save the earth part.

Looks great, and I'll definitely be seeing this, but...

This is supposed to take place before the 1979 original yet the Earthlings' technology -- down to the spacesuits -- looks much more advanced that the first movie's.  Also, Ridley Scott took great pains to make the Nostromo look lived in and "real" but this version of the future looks much too clean by comparison.

Still, I'll be there opening weekend, I'm sure.

Still not convinced this is an Alien movie, it looks to be just set in the same Universe.

Scott said specifically that the xenomorph has been overused and compromised artistically and will not be using it in this film.

Yeah, another xenomorph would be a massive yawn fest. I'm quite curious what they have in store for us, definitely looking forward to this one.

I agree the "save the world" trope is getting old.
Alien was great because the only thing they were saving was their own necks.

I agree a common problem with sci-fi prequels is that while the tech to make the movie has improved, the tech depicted is supposed to be behind yet the makers always seem to get sucked into showing bigger and better.

So what I glean about this is that it's about humans from a few years before Alien (and only about 60 years from now or so) discover there are aliens out there and go find the home and what happened to them and where the xenomorphs come from - but 30 years later the crew of the Nostromo knows nothing at all about it?

Do we know that this is the same planet the Nostromo lands on?

Its the same ship, or at least the same type of ship, but we dont necessarily know that the movie ends on the same planet it begins on. It does look in the trailer like the ship is moving...
