The New Year's Resolution Game
« on: Dec 31, 2011, 10:57:03 AM »
Post five resolutions, and when you successfully complete one, cross it out. Whoever successfully completes the most resolutions and keeps them checked off for the whole year wins a prize to be determined later.. (the prize will probably be self-satisfaction).

The rules are:

No editing your "resolutions post"

No picking resolutions that are absurdly mundane like "Go to the store".

There is no "try", there is only "do". So don't say "Try to lose weight", because anyone can try, but if you aren't successful then it doesn't count.

Here are my five to start:

1. Pay off all credit card debt and get my wife and I to stick to a budget

2. Pass calculus and chemistry with a grade of B or higher

3. Lose 15 pounds and keep it off by working out every weekday.

4. Re-quit smoking again.

5. Re-learn french or italian and start teaching it to my daughter.

1. Read 50 books.

2. Learn a new sewing skill (needle turn applique or free motion quilting).

3. Get up to walking 2.5 km a day three days a week by June 1.

4. Make a quilt for my youngest.

5. Host at least one dinner party or game night by the end of February.

1) Loose at least 20 pounds and develop a healthy style.

2) Make a habit of brushing my teeth twice a day (morning / night).

3) Be on time when grading my student's papers (not more than 2 weeks late).

4) Create a blog with at least one post per week.

5) I always keep forgetting things. Written them down doesn't work since I forget to look at what I have written. If I manage to make a method or do something for my memory I would be extremely happy even If I accomplish only this.

I sort of wish I had included "Write a daily email to the two email accounts I created for my daughters", but oh well. I'll just have to start doing that without it being a resolution.

Excellent idea.  Perhaps weekly would be better.  Do something manageable, or if you have to, make a thread here where you tell us about stuff and we'll encourage you, and then you can take your rough musings and turn them into the final letters you send.

Nah, I want it to be more raw. It's just sort of a daily musings type of thing, like a diary I keep but that I intend to share with them on their respective 18th birthdays. I plan on sending the first emails today.

Sent the first emails. Nothing special, basically just said "'sup, I'm your dad."

Quitting smoking.. not so much. I only smoked two today, but I was really hoping to keep it down to one. I just couldn't stop thinking about a cigarette all afternoon and my nicotine gum wasn't helping much.

I got these little journals to write in for my girls.  They are awesome.  http://www.amazon.com/One-Line-Day-Five-Year-Memory/dp/0811870197/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325557058&sr=8-1  It's such a small amount to write each day that I don't get intimidated.

Cold turkey on the smokes since the 28th.  Doing well.  Feeling a little cranky, but holding up.  First day back to work is tomorrow morning, see how that goes.

1) Haven't even weight myself yet. Off to a great start with this one.
2) Why is it so hard?
3) I only have 1 class this semester so it should be easy to keep this one for the time being.
4) ...
5) I forgot what I was going to do for this one.

In summary, not looking good.

Well, I didn't weigh myself but I've been working out. I've gotten myself up to 100 push ups and 100 crunches per day, which is way down from where I was in July/August when I pretty much stopped working out.
